I have a senior recital in May… 1 hour a day is not cutting it at all to get prepared. sometimes I do 2, but I know deep down that if I really am serious about getting good I need to put in 3 hours. I have never put in 3 hours of solid, good practice in one day before in my life. Some music major I am…
How to practice my flute more
How I did it: In preparation to what I planned to be a rigorous college music program, I practiced my bum off, made state honors band, the whole caboodle. Now, two years later, I'm not a biology major who plays twice a week in the campus orchestra...it's not quite the flute career I had in mind, although I'm glad it worked out the way it did. I sometimes wish I still had the time to devote to my instrument, but it's just not possible with the other commitments on my plate. Sometimes you just have to make choices. Playing my flute stopped being FUN, and that's when I knew something had to change.
Lessons & tips: This is something worth striving for, but always stop to evaluate your priorities.

I would LOVE to get really good at my flute playing again.
I picked it back up a few years ago, but since moving to an apartment, I can’t play it!!! I miss is so much sometimes. Whenever I do play it, I am amazed that I haven’t forgotten how! One day I want to play in a performance again.
BlueLily91 is getting ready for another beautiful day.
I have the flute, I have the instruction, now I just need the motivation to practice…
So I’ve been getting in about an hour a day, and about 3-4 hours on my days off. And beating myself up over it. I teach in the morning, work all day, teach a bit after, and come home exhausted. And when I don’t fill those last couple of hours in the day with flute, I feel guilty as hell. My profs weren’t kidding when they said that college was when you practice, after that you should be prepared enough to cut the practicing and just play. Except I’m not playing for anyone. Bah!! Life at the conservatory was so much easier!
My flute teacher moved away a while back…so no more flute for me. I still pick it up and play from time to time though.
practicing a lot more lately! i could still use more practice… it seems the better i get the more i have to do! probably because the better one becomes the more mistakes one is able to notice. :-/
solo and ensemble festival, the highlight of a solo perfomer’s year around here, is coming up. i’ve got my solo and some choirs picked out, now i just have to PRACTICE them. i hate disappointing my flute teacher and, in turn, disappointing myself. i really need to get on the ball.
I’ve spent the last five months preparing a solo for a concerto concert I performed in last night. It went fantastically. I practiced harder for this than for anything I’ve practiced for before, and it totally paid off.
I just found a place to take lessons from craigslist. I am really excited to take lessons cause this will really get me to play! But unfortunately I came down with pneumonia a couple weeks ago and now I have a really hard time breathing. I just have to be patient now and wait til I fully recover. I’m bummed.
