I know the rules and all that. I just need to work on outsmarting my opponent and thinking ahead, getting in their mindset, etc. I think I’ll practice with the application on my computer for a while, since no one else in my family has the time/desire to help me out…
I have a book somewhere in my room, with guidelines and strategies on how to win at chess. I just need to unearth it…

Worth doing!

My wife taught me, now I just have to figure out how to win against her!

Pocket chess  — 2 months ago

Learned how to use my pocket computer chess game, which was good, and brushed up on the basic rules, learning about castling, which was completely different to how I remembered people playing that rule at school, and en-passant and promotion, and different draws. Had a go at a game, but didn’t really have a clue about strategy…was just moving pieces…move onto chapter 2 tomorrow maybe.

played my first game of chess today  — 2 months ago

in real life (though me playing against the computer is hardly a game, even for the computer), with husband.

husband comes from a large family and played chess with his cousins growing up, but he hadn’t played since then, about 10-15 years. needless to say, he still won. but I didn’t get creamed, and I learned a lot from that one game.

it was so much fun!

I am going to try/check out several of the websites suggested to me as well, including yahoo, www.flyordie.com, msn games zone, chess.net, itsyourturn.com
brainking.com and littlegolem.net.

I will have to keep gamesforthebrain.com until I have a better understanding, since that is against the computer only as far as I can tell.

still,

easy to learn, hard to master  — 3 months ago

I love chess and am trying to get better. I have a chess program called “chessmaster 9000” and it has tutorials, lessions and it all starts from basic moves to strategy all the way to the stuff grand masters know. Or you could always go to a game store and they have beginner chess sets with the moves on the pieces. Good luck.

One of my friends just bought a new chess set and is going to teach me, so this goal may happen faster than I originally thought. Excellent!

I downloaded it onto my cellphone so I play it when I’m bored now. I still don’t consider this done because I don’t know all about chess yet.
