I’m from India where every family has a maid to do the housework (my parent’s maid even has a maid!). But now I live in London where it’s harder and more expensive to get a cleaner. I did have one for a while. She did the ironing mainly and cleaned the house when there was’t much ironing. But she’s gone back to Croatia now and the house is really getting dirty. My husband does more than his share when he can but he works long hours and often doesn’t have the time.
Right now our chore allocation is:
Cooking – We share it; mainly me but when he’s home before dinnertime, he often makes something (he’s a chef)
Laundry – I do this on the weeekends in the machine. I also put it out to dry & fold it up (though I should do the folding & putting away more regularly than at present)
Ironing – This is technically my job but I hate it & only emergency stuff gets done
Dishes – I normally do these though I leave the plastic boxes for my husband coz I can never get them clean. I need to do these more regularly though – we always seem to have stacks of unwashed dishes in the kitche despite me washing up everyday.
Cleaning – This is husband’s job but he rarely gets time.
Vacuuming – This is my job but I rarely bother.
So right now my target is:
1) Try to find another cleaner
2) Until I succeed with 1), make sure that:
Cooking – Make sure that no matter how tired I am, there is a home cooked meal available every night.
Laundry – Continue weekly loads but make sure they are folded & put away as soon as they are dry.
Ironing – Do 1 hour every weekend. Ugh.
Dishes – Try to make sure there are no dishes in sink at bedtime
Cleaning – Hopefully husband will have more time for this now
Vacuuming – Do it every weekend. Stop being lazy!
clare doesnt feel very well today
i managed to do loads of housework today, i changed my living room around, & scrubbed the kitchen, now i need to tackle upstairs & that includes the kids bedrooms, 2 of them which are teenagers, wish me luck
BirthdayCake90 has joined 43 things again!
so I’ve decided to aim to do 3 pieces of housework a day, and record them:
Tomorrow, I’m going to sort out the washing, cook something and clean my room a bit more :)
I want to help my family with the house work but more importantly I really want to fix up the house itself! I have so many ideas for landscaping and housework! I have begun renovations on our side area and front yard and hopefully I will be able to finish them!!

I’m an “I hate housework” person, but I’m doing more to keep my house neat lately. It may sound goofy, but I’ve found that I feel calmer and more content when my house is neat. Clutter and mess adds stress to my day more than cleaning it up does. It’s nice to be able to have guests just drop by and not have to apologize for having a messy house; or, if someone calls and says, “I’m on my way over,” I don’t have to scramble around straightening things up.

Now I’m in the habit of cleaning the bathrooms each week (and oddly enjoying it) I feel confident I can keep it up.

This is becoming a weekly ritual now, I actually feel rather proud of our sparkly bathrooms.
Everyone seems to be getting into it now which is nice.

Today we broke the housework chores up & all spent time doing our share.
It certainly made me appreciate my wife even more & I’m keen to keep doing my bit each week to share the load.
What would normally take 1 person 12 hours, we were able to do in 2 with 6 of us pitching in.

It’s scary what a little positive reinforcement can do. Godsworkinprogress motivated me to do some more round the house, so we are going to set up a roster/ plan to spread the load more.
