Celebrate International Arsene Lupin day March 26th

Last day 14 months ago

To finish the International Arsene Lupin month, I’ll take a celebratory bike ride across the town – only a couple of kilometers, unlike the century someone has planned… But then, I already know I’m not as cool as Arsene Lupin. :)

that this interval has been most alupinesque.

all the normal festivities are ones I love so. My volume to translate remains where it has all winter, etc. I won’t recount the entire sad inventory, just quietly admit a temporary defeat in my desires to live a different sort of life.

Well, I didn`t really get to participate much 15 months ago

in all the festivities, since Agatha was so sick last night. But I did read some party entries and enjoyed them very much! And luckily, we have a whole month to celebrate, so I can still get to join in all the fun! :)

Not only day, but month 15 months ago

If I understand correctly, the actual date to celebrate is April 26th, and we’re supposed to celebrate for the whole month. Of course, not that we have to, but I think that every excuse for celebration is a good one. :) So, I’ll be sure to include some dancing, bike-riding, learning, poetry reading and fine wining and dining in the days to come. :D

Danadanadana Needs a little holiday. But where? and when?

Sorry I'm late to the party. 15 months ago

When I was in Japan I was always the first one at the party. Now I’m on the west coast of North America and I’m always a day late.

I always seem to be hovering on the edge of the world somewhere relative to you mostly Euro-timed funsters… Dang those time zones!

Here’s a glass of cognac for you, Arsene!

When I was 13 15 months ago

I spent a fortnight on a school exchange in Brittany. One summer night the whole village – parents, grandparents and children – went out onto the heath for a fest noz. They’d dug a huge pit and were roasting two sheep over it.

Then the bombards and the bagpipes started and we danced in a circle around the fire until dawn. That night changed my world for ever.

I wish we could all be there now :)

to mark the start of le mois de Lupin. and then i’m going to do all of d7th’s suggested activities. joy!

A suggested program of activities for the month of Lupin 15 months ago

1) Register in a course you’ve always meant to take. Plan the advance reading you will do so that you will not only have read all the required materials, but (if you meet your goals) have written some additional insightful and innovative material that really should be on the list by the time the course begins.

2) Buy a book of poetry or other literature in a language that is not your mother tongue. Bonus points if you have had no social exposure to the language, and even more bonus points if you have never studied it academically.

3.) Using a dual-language dictionary, translate one line every morning before work. At the end of Lupin, you may compare your work to that of more experienced translators (who are known to frequently cheat by having prior knowledge of the language).

4.) Week 2 – use this translation as the basis for a work of art in a different form – theatre, sculpture, landscape design or musical composition (min length: poignant riff / max: symphony).

5.) Begin compiling a dual-language dictionary that you wish existed but does not yet. Your field research may be based upon interactions with a bare acquaintance you find intriguing yet largely incomprehensible.

6.) Plan and cook a series of delicious meals for someone you cherish. Notice their presence and give them your highest calibre attention.

7.) Practice a musical instrument for a full hour every day during Lupin. Bonus points for an additional 30 minutes on each additional instrument to a maximum of 6 instruments total.

8.) Week 3: Go for a bike ride 5 times longer than you would normally, to a max of 50 km. Your destination: the nearest Museum of Millinery.

9.) Week 4. Advanced napping and self-doubt. Interpret to fit. Seek and find relief in the garden.

10.) Lupin Day: bike a century if you are an avid cyclist, otherwise, form a band. Begin with Autumn Leaves, then proceed to rock.

Happy happy day, Arsene! Today I will tune the banjo in your honor, or perhaps dust off the hammered dulcimer.
