Tropical storm Ida is on her way through. So far it just seems like rain. That’s ok – this place is beautiful in the rain.

Last night someone reminded me that on the 17th there will be a meteor shower. I looked up at the sky (on the 8th) and a shooting star wizzed by just at the same second. It made me jump up and down and say wowowow!

I was hiking recently in the Hoh Rainforest in Olympia Nat’l Park. Its supposedly a rain forest, and the displays at the visitor’s center said they receive approximately 132” of rain per year, but while I was there I hardly felt a drop. Once or twice I looked down and noticed five timid raindrops on my sleeve, but nothing more. After four days and three nights along the 40-mile round-trip trail we got in the car and pointed the wheels toward town … and just a moment later the sky opened up and the rain lasted five days. What lovely luck!
On the second night of camping I was looking up at the velvet black sky. Jupiter has been visible for a little while now and I took some moments to gaze at his brightness. After looking for a little bit I could see a very tiny faint light near to Jupiter, at about the 7 o’clock position. I think it was a mooon! Oh what a nice feeling to see something so small and far away with just my eye.
I was clicking around today trying to learn more about Jupiter’s moons, to find out if that is really what I saw. I couldn’t get a clear answer to that question, but I learned that today, October 12, Jupiter comes out of retrograde. I don’t know what the astronomers would say about that, but I think it must mean something nice for everybody.
