My son had surgery in the crotchal area 2 months ago. That completely changed everything. I had to keep him in diapers (cloth with safety pins so he couldn’t open them) so he wouldn’t poke at his incision for 2 weeks. He doesn’t stay dry at night anymore. It’s like starting over.

If I angle the door so he can see himself in the mirror, he stays on the can. He thinks it’s funny. He doesn’t climb on the sink and play with things when I do that. I also discovered that if he’s not wearing anything, he’s more likely to ask to be taken to the bathroom.

Autism is not fun at times 1 week ago

My son is autistic, so it is taking forever to potty train him. I won’t give up! I recently bought him some ‘big boy’ undies to wear with cartoons on them, hoping that will do it. I figure if he soils himself in them it will feel really uncomfortable and it will encourage him to use the potty more.

I’m pregnant again and the smell of changing diapers is making me very nauseous. I can’t even be near the bucket. Laundry day. . . I just want to go lay down and die.

He stays dry during the night and during naps. We have a seat for him to sit on the regular potty and there’s a potty in the living room. When he wakes up in the morning he gets me to take his diaper off and I sit him on the toilet. Usually he’ll pee. If I set him on it any other time he’ll get distracted and stand up and play with things on the sink. I notice he pees to the left, so every time he pees on my leg. I’m making more cloth training pants. The ones I made are really hard for him (and me) to pull up and down. I need to get a couple of books about this. They might have some things I haven’t thought of.

ok… so last night we went out for pizza and he didn’t have a diaper. He kept saying “potty potty” my husband and I kept taking turns taking him to the restroom. I think it was a game he was playing but I want him to ask to go potty so I just went with it. I was very stressed out about today. It was a playdate scheduled with the moms from his 2 for 2’s class. The homeroom mothers wanted to schedule a playdate so the kids could get to know one another.

When we went home my husband was trying to get him to go potty and he peed in the bathroom; however refused to sit on the potty :)
Once he sits on the potty he has no problem going. It’s just that a few time he had an accident yesterday. He pooped in his pants once. So this morning I put a diaper on him. A little while later he said “potty” he goes into the bathroom and pees!!! This made me so happy. I still made him wear the diaper to the playdate. He stayed dry while he was in his diaper. I caught him touching himself once today so I took him to the potty (he put up a little fight). Later in the day… I was using my own bathroom, talking on the phone LOL. My son comes in the bathroom and then turns around and goes in his bathroom and then I hear the sound of music from his potty. He had gone all by himself. He had actually taken off his diaper, sat down by himself, and peed. We have been teaching him to clean up by wiping and then dumping his potty into the big potty and then flushing. Then he will wash his hands (I have been saying the ABC’s while he’s washing his hands) then the final step is for him to put back on his underwear. I almost gave up today :( It’s today that I feel refreshed and somewhat successful about this goal. I am making progress.

We allowed him to pick up a little seat to fit on the big potty if he wants to use that instead.
I will continue on with this goal.

He does go in his potty; however, he needs prompted. He puts up such a fight to get to the bathroom. Do we buy more pottys…? one for the living room? He doesn’t like to pull down his underware either. I need to just relax and maybe he wouldn’t put up a fight.

The 4th day 4 months ago

I needed to get away in the evening…and escape the training. I was so exhausted. The hours just blended together. I did get him to relax a little bit on the potty by letting him read a book. I should of done this on day 1 but I did have the bath books near him but I should of known he wouldn’t be interested in that. I went to Jo-anns and got some more items for my Bee project. I also picked up a plastic bin to keep his books in the bathroom and I got another laundry hamper for the bathroom so he can put his underware and towels in there.

I used bubbles when he was sitting on the potty. He doesn’t seem to sit on the potty long. I still have difficult time getting him to go potty. He has gone several times and pooped once. I need to set my phone alarm for every 30 minutes tomorrow. I slacked today. At the end of the day he did seem to like reading his book. When I went to Jo ann fabrics, I bought a bin to put his books in and I also bought a laundry basket to keep in there for when I have to change his underware.

    1. ask him if he has to go potty every 30 minutes.
    2. watch out for bathroom signs (when he is touching himself).
    3. watch Elmo goes to the potty video.
    4. incorporate the doll at least twice.
    5. read potty books.

    Day 2 4 months ago

He still puts on a fight. It doesn’t help that we are all sick. The poor guy…. Especially when he has an accident I take him to the potty 9x. (This is part of the one day training method).

He was excited to put the construction paper on the floor to make the railroad tracks to the potty. When I said “Let’s practice going to the potty” He shut the hall door and said No. LOL

He peed several times just taking him to the potty. He pooped once. We did 20 minute checks.

Can I scream? 4 months ago

All day today we have been going to the potty. I started out with giving him a wrapped Potty Scotty. We named him David and put him in big boy underwear. Made him drink and then showed the doll how to potty. When I made a big deal about Potty Scotty going to the bathroom my son got a little jealous. He said something like “Mason goes potty”. That is when i put big boy pants on my son. After that he had a few accidents..(every accident, we went to the potty and pulled down pants, sat on potty, and then pulled pants down. Repeat this for 9x) I Let him pick from wrapped presents when he actually goes to the potty. We have been telling “Let’s go to the Potty” very frequently (Every 20 minutes or so. He still puts up a fight about actually going to the potty. Letting him carry his new airplanes seems to help a little. I do make a big deal if he goes potty… by wearing hats.. having noise makers and blowing bubbles.

He does not initiate going to the potty on his own :( I took a nap when I put him down for his and then I told my husband to take over because I was so exhausted. I helped out my husband a little when I got back. I am now on the computer taking another little break.. but I am so tired. I have payed no attention to my 6month old and I have done nothing else all day. There is no going back in my mind. I am not going to put diapers back on him now. I just can’t give him total attention every day.

I am just hoping that it does not take him long to self-initiate.
Tomorrow… I think that I am going to make a road to potty with construction paper to help ease the tension to when he has to go.

If anyone can offer any suggestions I am up for it.
I have not rewarded him for staying dry… just peeing in the potty.
