How to fold 1000 paper cranes by courtney foxsparrow

"I'm glad we folded them for our wedding."

How I did it: We started early and folded a few at a time in order to keep the task from becoming tedious.  It was pretty fun, and something we could do together as a couple while we watched movies.  It was also something we worked on for our wedding together.  We made 1071 cranes so that we could have our lucky 1001 to keep and 70 to turn into favors for our wedding guests.  To make the favors, I strung hemp cord with beads and a crane, then tied the cord off at the bottom with a charm that said "thank you."

Lessons & tips: Use good paper that isn't too large.  We thought the larger paper would be easier to fold, but it was actually the smaller paper that was easier to work with and went really fast to fold.            

Resources: I bought origami paper in bulk of of ebay to save money.  It was also better quality than I found in local craft stores. 

For the party favors, I bought hemp cord, wood beads, glass beads, and "thank you" charms at Michael's craft store.  I was able to make each favor for about 40 cents each.

    Learned how to fold a paper crane 2 months ago

    Today I learned how to fold a paper crane. My first one is bright yellow and sitting on top of the TV. I’m not sure I’m going to embark on folding 1000 right now, though – I’d like to have a specific purpose in mind when I do it.

    Things have surely been hectic, but we were able to fold another 80 last night while we watched cheesy ninja movies. It was really fun. So, that puts us at 880 with only 120 to go! We still have 4 1/2 weeks until the wedding, so I think we’ll be just fine. Really, we could fold those together in one evening if we really had to. Now I just have to get to all the other stuff left on the “to-do” list.

    As of today, I’m up to 800. Just two more and we’ll be done! I would like to finish by the end of this weekend, just so I can call it done!

    I’m also making paper roses and flowers for my bouquets. It’s cheaper and much more fun than real flowers!

    I folded 60 more last night while I watched episodes from season 2 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. My life is so interesting, no? I won’t be able to fold any tonight since I have plans for a change. Woo-hoo! I’ll try to do another 40 this weekend some time.
