go horseback riding on the beach

I rode a horse on the beach of Raratonga in the Cook Islands. My hores’s name was splash. I soon found out why. I’ve ridden on the beach on Boracay in the PI, on a beach on Kauai in Hawaii, on the shore of a lake near Tahoe, by a stream in Napa Valley, by a large pond in Singapore. Horses and water seem to go together.

I did it! Pacific Dunes Riding Stables in Oceano, California. It was magical!

It sounds fantastic. I’d like to do it for my next birthday in July. I think you ought to be able to do this in Southern California, but I don’t know where (or if) it’s allowed. Maybe in Baja?

Man, does this sound good today? Riding on the beach of a tropical island in 90 degree heat. Sure would beat the 30 below windchill and snow of the last few days.

But not anytime soon

...I watched The Black Stallion too many times as a child because not only do I want to ride a horse on the beach, I want it to be a black horse and I want to gallop bareback (which I’ve never been able to do). I would settle for simply riding along the beach though. Though I live in the land of 10,000 lakes, there’s not a significant stretch of beach on any of them that I’ve seen, so this might be a ways off.

I was in Vera Cruz, Mexico for Study Abroad through MSU 3 weeks over Christmas vacation. We were at the tail end of the trip, and on my birthday, I woke up early, left my hotel room (which was on the beach) and got to ride a horse along the beach! I even said Hee-yah and the horse picked up the pace. How cool is that?

It has always been a dream to me, and one day I hope to make this a reality. I would love to run along the beach at sunset or sunrise for that matter, just as long as I get to do it!

Someday, I hope to have a horse or two, and be able to do this like everyday. I’ll survive without it, but it’s just one of those things, that I just want to experience.
