I think I’ll start with an internship during my college holidays first. I’m too much of a chicken to quit going o college to become a teacher and go right into music. I want to get some insight on the field first. I think interns, jobs, volunteering while still going to college gives me an opportunity to experience music business without taking too much risk. Aftet all, I think I would enjoy teaching a lot, too…

Learned alot did alot, met alot of cool people. Its also alot different then working a “Normal” 9-5 job.
I interned at Saddle Creek Records and loved it. I want to go back , or at least be in the industry.
oh my gosh.. I had the biggest revelation the other week.. I realised that its not my job thats the problem, nor the company, nor the colleagues, nor the long days.. Its actually ME.. shit..
I just am not enjoying my professional life AT ALL! and HOW THE HELL did I end up in IT when I studied developing countries and wanted to work in the bush with empowering women?? among other things..
So, I did some soul searching, and some more soul searching.. and read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance to REALLY get those philosophical ideas flowing, and what do you know.. I figured out Im on the wrong path in life!
ARGH! So how do you reverse, or lets say do a 180degree turn in your professional life? Lets just say, Im happy I didnt realise this after 20 years in this business..
Sooo.. I have realised, I would love to work in music.. music music music! being a tour publicist or a label publicist would be fantastic! I want to use my ability or should I say obsession with talking to people in a good way, and get into PR, marketing etc in the music industry.. event organisation, management etc.. Now I just need to sit down and plan this a bit more in detail… ;)
wish me luck!;)
I worked at the radio station DC101 for a whole summer, I was an intern. It was awesome, I met some amazing people there! def worth doing!!
I’m qualified as a sound engineer, well versed in the use of high end recording software/hardware such as ProTools HD3, DP4 and Cubase SX. Additionally, I am a music producer who is musically trained, capable of composing and arranging almost any style of music. I’m already accredited within the French-Antillean music market, as a producer, singer-songwriter and arranger, and have worked on several Hip-Hop projects (i.e. Nytty Byggs). I am also very knowlegeable on the business aspects of music, having executively produced a major French-Antillean Artist in 2001 (Viviane Rangon).
I wish there was something between worth it and and not worth it. I still work in the industry, and it isn’t what everyone thinks it is… but I am oh so glad I have a job :)
