I was watching ANTM reruns yesterday while drinking my morning coffee. One girl was dismissed from the show at eliminations because she let her excuses get in the way of actually reaching those goals. More specifically, the model said she had asthma and couldn’t try a challenge, while tons of athletes and performers are stretching through the boundaries of their asthma every day.
This got me thinking about my tendency to make excuses to cushion the way others see and treat me. A bad day or a cluster headache is temporary, not a chronic condition. This was a new thing for me to embrace.
There’s a professor at my school who teaches modern dance, and she adapts gracefulness in a modern way. She’s very humble and giving, and this inspires me. I’d love to be able to carry my emotional weight the way she does; always in motion, always a dance, always a thanks-giving.
