I don't want a tan 11 months ago

Tanned skin is so 1999. I want the health benefits! Vitamin D I good for you, I hear. Eating more raw food = more non-deranged unheated fats = better skin protection & more vitamin E from nuts as well = fewer problems with sun exposure, including aging. Flaxseed/linseed, extra virgin oils, raw nuts & seeds = yum.

Son of the sun 14 months ago

I get a lot of sun everyday being a kayak guide and wind surf instruction translator in Hawaii. I’m getting quite brown even though I use a lot of sun screen. Too much sun is probably not healthy, but I also drink a lot of carrot juice that supposedly protects the skin from those bad UV rays. Sure, get some sun, but protect your skin.

Windows. 14 months ago

I hate driving in a car with the windows rolled up!
How can someone not want that fresh air?
How can someone substitute perfectly fine air with the kind that blows through the vehicle, wasting your gas?

I love the outside air that blows through car windows, and I love the way the sun feels the arm that’s resting against that window.

So much. 14 months ago

I’ve been getting so much sun!

I love the sun.

My skin looks so good and healthy.

This is only complete when I feel like I’ve been getting too much sun.

How I avoided sunlight my entire life in south florida… no idea. But being in Tallahassee now it’s even worse. Went to the springs today and I realized that I would have a farmer’s tan if it weren’t for the fact that even the parts of my body that are always exposed are also ridiculously pale. Pussy rains from the sky in a college town, yet I don’t partake in it. If I wasn’t such a skinny white boy I wouldn’t be able to avoid getting laid. Easily rectifiable but I’m too lazy. No more!

I just found out that I am severely deficient in Vitamin D. I’ve always thought I was doing the right thing by staying out of the sun to try and avoid skin cancer (which is very prevalent in Australia)... and the fact that I burn quite easily doesn’t help either…

Now the doc tells me I have to spend at least 15 minutes a day in the sunshine (as well as taking tablets) to get my Vitamin D levels back up, otherwise I risk osteoporosis later in life. I’ve always eaten plenty of dairy foods to get lots of calcium in my system to avoid osteoporosis, but apparently the calcium can’t do any good without the vitamin D, so I suppose that is another thing I have gotten completely wrong! Aargh…

Perhaps I am defeating the point. 3 years ago

I’ve been spending more time outside so far this summer than I have the last few years. Lots and lots of time. The only problem with the getting more sun part is that I tend to go out when it’s cloudy, raining or dark. When the sun and I are both out together I hide in the shade and wear lots of long clothes. It might turn out that by the end of the summer I’ll still be ghostly white but my face and forearms will be covered in freckles. Won’t that be splendid?

I'm white 3 years ago

Bordering on winter white—and now it’s springtime. The rain is not helping my cause. I have a new white dress that I refuse to wear until I get some color! I’m not saying I need a week in Aruba type of sun (though that would be nice). I just need some vitamin D and a healthy glow already.
