I got my Bachelor’s degree in Journalism: Public Relations from the University of Oregon in 3 years. Pretty great school!

It’s awesome! I entered college last summer, and picked journalism major. Things we study are pretty hard here (like bases of communication, social anthropology and media law) but in the end it’s all worth it. Journalism is probably one of the most fun majors you can pick, and in the end you’re also left with a bunch of possibilities like being a internet journalist, or a newspaper, or radio, tv? or you can work in public relationships or in advertising… amazing.

it’s a lot of fun, although i’m doing this in high school, not college. i write for my school newspaper, covering campus news, and it’s a great way to get involved in school. you meet a lot of new people, and you learn a lot of things you wouldn’t normally learn about your school.

Well...um... 2 years ago

I’m starting not to really enjoy my English class.
Anyone want to help me reverse these feelings?

yep, this is a great J school. i enjoyed my time there and sort of created my own course of study (publication production) combining J classes w/graphics classes. i used it for 2 of 4 “main” jobs i’ve had, and publication design was my career for a while. but mostly, you learn on the job, college gives you some skills to use as a diving board.

I started studying journalism two weeks ago.

Now that i finished my studying...time to work 3 years ago

So i did some J school. I learend the ropes. But when I had to get started on my career, I had no idea what to do. I wanted to be a reporter, but I didn’t know where to start.

I got my first reporting gigs working for websites. The pay is nada but the work is real and the clips are real. As the internet becomes more respected as a news outlet, experience as a online reporter are becoming more valid to an editor at a traditional news company.

I made my bones at New York Hotlist.com which is part of the 1938 Media network of websites. The people there are really great and accommodating and they are always looking for new talent. Drop them a line if you would like to get your foot in the door.

Being a journalist is a thankless hard and low paying job. But there are few jobs that can match the excitement you get from being a journalist.

High School Journalism 4 years ago

When I was a freshman, I joined our school newspaper and we learned journalism while actually printing a paper throughout the year, I think we had like 8 issues, I only got published once but when I saw it there and I realized how hard I had worked on it, I was so proud. Being in the journalism class also made me a better writer, while I had a blast meeting new people and writing about all of the important things happening at our school. TRY IT!

CU in Ottawa was an amazing addition to my life. The things you learn there (even out of class) will last you a lifetime.

Great program, great city.

Good luck!
