I called several roofing companies, and none of them had any idea what I was talking about. One guy was like, what, you want to paint your roof green? Fortunately, this is a small project. Maybe a few folks will get educated in the process.
I saw an article on HuffPost yesterday about green roofs, so maybe it will become more mainstream—at least enough that people have heard of it.

Garage Roof
We need to replace our garage roof, and I want to make it a living, eco-roof. I want to plant it with native plants that benefit butterflies, moths, birds, bees, etc. if possible.
I’ve been thinking about plants for a while, but now I need to get in touch with some roofing contractors and see who might be able to help out with this. It might be 50% them, 50% us.
I also have a rain barrel, so I’m going to try to get whatever runoff there is directed into it.

ecogreen is being eco friendly and living green! You should Too!
This is one of my green goals. This does a lot for the environment like catching rain water and absorbing it into the plants instead of the sewers. This also helps the planet by giving the sun more green to create photosynthesis instead looking down on earth at millions of miles of blacktop and roofing which does nothing good for the planet. I plan on creating a small garden of some sort on top of the roof where it connects my garage to the house, like a walkway. The roof is flat so it should be easy to create. I have seen some people who’s gardens sit on top of slanted roof’s , something to look into in the future. I want to start off small because i won’t be living in this house for very much longer. When i get my dream green home i will create a green roof with more depth an detail. I’ll keep you guys posted on my progress and if i find any helpful links on this subject.
