It’s just a part-time job at the college, so nothing spectacular here. However, I’m not close to tears by the end of each day, which is a vast improvement over the jobs I’ve had before.

is there one? 8 months ago

doing lots of little jobs never pays the bills and doing one “big” job always surrounds me with people who are convinced they are more important than me, that their schedules are immutable while mine is not only mutable but cling-wrapped to theirs.

i wish i had money for every time somebody said they’d hire me if they could. where are these people now, why aren’t i working for people i like, and why must i subjugate my own needs to those of a larger machine?

    new job... 15 months ago

Well I got a new job for the summer, at a national pet store chain… I decided it would be a good fit since I love animals and get to see them on a regular basis. However, I’m not quite sure it was what I had in mind when I wrote this goal… I mean, I don’t hate it (yet), and it’s a step up from my other jobs, but it’s still the same old cashiering work and customer service..standing on my feet for 8 hours at a register dealing with people. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a people person (and an animal person), but it’s still a quite miserable job at times (if anyone has ever worked in customer service you know exactly what I mean). I’m just ready for something new…but don’t think that will happen for at least a couple years considering I’m still in college so I’m relatively untrained in anything closer to my field of interest.

So for now I’m deciding whether I should cross this off or not… I think it’ll stay for awhile, but lower on the list. I do like most of my new coworkers..there’s a plus…

    Day Job 16 months ago

That is what is boils down to.
I am about to start a self-funded PhD part-time, and will have to work. Obviously, I would love a job related to what i do, but they pay so badly, are very competitive, and most people are prepared to do them for free anyway, at least at the beginning.

It would also be good to not have to work full time, so I can dedicate more time to my PhD, so that really just lives one option: waitressing. I hate it, but so any other kind of office job, so if it pays (because of tips) a lot better, and allows me to do more music, then, why not?

If anybody has a better idea, please let me know!

P.s. Why would anybody want to ‘play’ being a waitress, I don’t know:

It is still a job, but I actually kind of like it a little.

    ahhhh 2 years ago

I have worked as a cashier on weekends for two years, and every day I go to work I want to QUIT!! unfortunately, I have to do something to raise money over the summer… I’ll be starting college in September. I do babysit occationally, which I don’t hate, but I can’t really make any money doing that.
My friend just got a job as a vet’s assistant, which is something I would love to do… unfortunately, I am not that lucky…sigh… I hope I can figure something out soon!

I have a job in mind, 2 years ago

I’ve applied to be a dairy farm worker. Working all day outside in the sun, mud rain and shit! the best thing for my soul right now I think. Plus I’ll be can work with animals and amass a small fortune as I’ll have no where to spend money. The first step is done now I just got to stick with it.

Or for now any job will do 2 years ago

All the jobs advertised that I can actually apply for are crapy service jobs, been there done that. There’ve been six or seven jobs I’ve really wanted but so does everyone else and I’m sick of rejection letters. I may have to ask my old boss to take me back, I know he will and in five minuettes I’ll remember why I quit, why I started drinking agian, what made me think cartoons were funny. Reaquainted with the general malise of the bottom teir of capitalism. The chronically hopeless dumbfucks and burnouts that I’ll have to work with. I’ll be pissed off, bored and depressed again. To go back to the supermarket is to addmit defeat.
