The town held an event for Earth Day, and we were able to meet the guy in charge of the city’s recycling. He answered a bunch of questions from us, and now we know where to take most of the stuff which was still going in the trash. Without curbside recycling, it takes a little effort but it’s worth it. Every week our herbie-curbie (trash can) is only about 1/4 full, and that’s mainly bathroom and cat trash. I look at the neighbors’ trash overflowing and it makes me confident that we’re doing well.

How I did it: I've always kept materialistic materials around, even if I knew I am never going to look at them, use them, or even benefit of them. I always thought of it as, "Just in case!" Nevertheless, after few years in university, the papers has started to pile up, needless to say, I've already had piles of high school papers and documents that I wasn't in need of.I never really cared about recycling, despite the benefits I knew of. I just shrugged… Read how I did it…

How I did it: I recycle all the paper and plastic in the blue bin the council supply. I also take my glass bottles to the local recycle centre. And the odd time I have a plastic bag there is a recycle point at Asda for them too. Thats if I didn't use them as bin liners :) Read how I did it…
How I did it: I got a three sectiopn laundry hamper to divide up the paper, metals, plastics and I had to add a box for glass. Our county does not pick up recycling so we do have to make the effort to go drop it all off. My employer allows people to bring in their recyclables (accept glass) to add to the dumpster. So it made it easy to take a bag in and drop it off. They get paid for it so no problem there.I am even to the point where I take labels … Read how I did it…

How I did it: I started doing this properly two years ago. Prior to this it was a very half hearted effort on my behalf. We get a recyling collection direct from our house every fortnight so it seemed a shame not to participate. The local council supply you with two black plastic tubs, one for paper & one for cans & plastics. (The metal gets separated by a magnet at the recycling depot). We also have another of our own boxes, for glass… Read how I did it…

sweet vv is ready to change her world
only separating things to recycle i think i should really find a place that is really concerned about the recycling cause and see what they’re doing with the “garbage”.
I have not posted on this site in two years. Since then, I have added a bin for aluminum, clear plastic, and cardboard that I use regularly. I also have a bin for glass and tin, but currently they are full of mulch and compost that I am holding for use in the garden. I also have a bucket in the garage that I put my daily compostables into, and a compost barrell in the back to make ammendments to the garden. I also have gotten away from buying plastic water bottles for drinking purposes. I now use a filtered water pitcher or the tap from the refrigerator for drinking water. Sounds like I have improved quite a bit from two years ago.
I’ve tried to get the house recycling more, but my problem is that there are no nearby recycling receptacles, so everything just builds up in the corner of the dining area until we get fed up and start chucking it to the garbage dumpster. i can’t make the 30 minute trip out to the sam’s parking lot every week just to recycle. it really is a shame. there’s got to be a better way to do this…
maybe if i do a little research (ie drive around to scope out recycling bins around town).
Greenaxe is going to enjoy life more
I saw the lorry the bin men drive and ir said on the side “next stop landfill, think before you throw”. i know its obvious but i knd of forgot that all our rubbish that we dont recycle goes into the ground. will definately recycle more!
YOU5LCKY goin backpackin

Seriously, i was so excited to start this whole recycling thing. Its been only a few weeks, and we’ve just been collecting so far, but its gotten out of hand… piles of cans, bottles, & plastic… its so horrible! and the worst part is the recycling center isnt even that far away, its just making time to take it down… although, i was looking at the pile last night, feeling a bit overwhelmed, but then i realized all the things i was going to recycle would normally just go in the trash, it was nice when i realized that all of it will go to a better use, and that’s just my house, i cant even imagine if EVERYONE recycled how wonderful that would be…
