I’ve found that I don’t know perl well enough to really understand the examples in this book. Unfortunately, learning perl is not a priority. Maybe when perl 6 is released I’ll spend some time with it, and then I can come back to this goal.

Cacheing and memoization are handy little tricks. I particularly like the little profiling tool trick at the end of the chapter. On to chapter 4, iterators.
Off to a good start here. Last time I started I got stuck in Chapter 3, so we’ll see how this goes…

He is a cool guy – although he disagreed with my theories about the New York skyline (something about the bedrock in New York determining where the biggest skyscrapers could be built…).
He gives a good set of lectures – I can recommend.
but not enough to buy a copy. MJD is putting it online though, so I’ll have to read it that way. I really don’t care that much about Perl, but I think I can translate the concepts over to Ruby.
On the other hand, maybe just learning haskell or scheme would be enough.
