Ive lasted a week without TV. Ive realised that i waste so much time infront of the TV and how there are much more fun things to do.

How I did it: I still watch minimal TV (30 Rock, Entourage, The Office, Ellen, etc.) but not daily, weekly, or on any sort of schedule. USUALLY just an episode of something when I am settling down to sleep for the night (unless I have a good book). I think it's unfair to write off all TV, because there is a lot of funny, interesting, and educational matter to be viewed (among the mountains of crap that also make it on air). But … Read how I did it…
How I did it: To get rid of a "bad habit" you must replace it with a positive action... I replaced the time I used to watched TV with outside walks, piano playing, painting, playing with my dogs. Read how I did it…
troubletakingplace is playing piano instead of wasting time on the internet !
How I did it: We needed to make room for a piano. So we put the TV on the street with a sign "It works, take it if you want". Ten minutes later, it was gone. The few interesting things on TV can be found on the internet. A TV is big, ugly, and useless. Read how I did it…
How I did it: TV hasn't ever been as important to me as it is to other folks, so I didn't have a lot of trouble with quitting. As with drinking soda, I haven't COMPLETELY stopped watching, I just cut it back about 95% from where I was 15 years ago. I probably still watch 2 hours a week and the occasional DVD movie. When I was commuting to and from work I got my world news from NPR morning radio, so I couldn't stand watching it all again at 10:00 p… Read how I did it…
How I did it: Cancel cable. It's really all you have to do. We don't miss TV I swear! We watch a movie almost every night, but not always. Play games, do hobbies, be active. Don't just sit there! Read how I did it…

According to kidshealth.org “kids and teens 8 to 18 years spend nearly 4 hours a day in front of a TV screen and almost 2 additional hours on the computer (outside of schoolwork) and playing video games”
Unfortunatly i am one of those kids :0
Today im going to try my best not to watch TV until next saturday (thats in a week).
The only acceptions is watching the news and educational programs i.e. history channel, geo etc. Only for 30 mins a day.
Rather than watching TV in my spare time i could:
-Paint/draw
-help around the house
-Visit a friend
-Make oragami
-play the piano
-make study notes for school
and so on….
Tell u how i go in a weeks time :P
AllEgyptianGirl Switching off my mind & taking a break from thinking .. Try it !!
My hours of watching TV fell dramatically though I’m a TV Addict .. Wouldn’t have imagined this happening . Once you stop you realize it’s neither as addictive nor as good as it seems .. Very Happy with this Elhamdulellah really :DDD
I’ve cut out watching mindless TV at night. I read instead. Or watch a good movie. I don’t think I will quit TV completely. What I really want out of this is to watch it minimally, only after completing necessary tasks, and to get something out of it. If it’s educational, news, or Entourage I’m still going to watch :)
I’ve been struggling with stress, depression, anxiety, alcoholism and gambling problems. Amidst all of this I found myself hiding behind the bottle and my tv. When my cable was recently turned off due to lack of payment I freaked out and that’s when I knew I had a problem. I’m writing about in hopes that it will be good therapy. I’ve decided to stop watching all together for at least six months to see how if might affect my shattered life. Please feel free to check out my blog as maybe there are some things you can relate to.

but nevertheless ready to try something new. I love tv shows with all my heart. I have this intense love for stories, whether poorly told or not. The television supplies an endless amount of stories. However, there are other ways to satisfy this need without spending all day on the couch or in my bed watching stuff online. I don’t think reading is a significantly better option, but at least I am capable of putting down a book and moving on.
We’re gonna find us some friends.
I do, however, reserve the right to watch any show birthed by Dr. Drew and watch my absolute favorite show (in all its ridiculousness) Kenny vs. Spenny. Neither of which are on tv right now anyway.

Comcast is done. I will up my Netflix subscription, though. I am still waiting for them to shut it off.

It’s interesting, I’m getting more done, particularly more cooking and reading, both much healthier alternatives.

I just returned from a vacation in Morocco, where I watched no television, and realized how much time and energy the boob tube sucks out of my life. I don’t have cable, so when I got back my television wasn’t working due to the changeover to digital. I can’t quite figure out how to get the adapter working and decided this is the perfect opportunity to try giving it up completely.
I haven’t really watched TV in four or so years. Started cutting back tremendously in college when I became more busy. Not having cable for all that time made a difference as well. Since January 2008 I haven’t had a TV where I am living. There probably are a few channels that I would still find interesting (such as Food Network, Discovery Channel, TLC, History Channel, and the BBC Planet Earth series) but overall it’s not worth it. I certainly don’t miss watching TV, it has freed up amazing amounts of time. A question I still am not sure about is if I ever plan on owning a TV set again to be used for movies and documentaries once I move back to the United States.
