How I did it: I made a two year limit on what causes I'll volunteer for. If it goes sour prior to two years, I walk. I was volunteering a GREAT deal of time to a local charity and when they started taking advantage, I resigned and never looked back. I transported rescue animals from state to state for two years. When the two years was up, I was done ... someone else's turn. I spend more time with me now and it's been worth it. I also stopped answering my phone as i have several girlfriends who only seemed to call when they needed something. I've also ditched friends who only wanted me there to help them and weren't around otherwise. Just say NO!
That twisted feeling in my gut is telling me I don’t want to do it. Listen to it – no matter who it is or what it is, that knot in my stomach says don’t do it.
It says they are perfectly capable of doing it themselves – they just can’t be arsed – or they have buggered something up and can’t be bothered putting it right – it’s much easier to get me to do it instead.
I severed ties with a student who caused me nothing but stress today. Collectively, she and her mother were the bane of my existence. I dreaded that lesson every week. Today, I decided that it isn’t worth the paycheck, and I told her mother that I would no longer be teaching her. Aaaaaahhhhh, a weight has been lifted!
