How I did it:
I wrote about my passion for Sarah Connor and Ellen Ripley as modern feminist icons and thought about how this could translate to "my" world.
I read several novels, plays, and like fifteen movies about apocalypses, and analysed tropes, archetypes, plot points, and dramatic techniques which could and couldn't translate to the stage.
I thought about
I brainstormed pleasant locations for the 'pocalypse, and Boyfriend finally suggested a hotel, and he was spot-on. (refer to goal:love)
I crammed to finish it after handing in a different Major Work, but somehow just stared at my screen for days on end until literally the last few minutes.
I would consider it incomplete (the first scene just trails off, incredibly weakly) but it's submitted and I will get points for my massive logbook (I wish I'd weighed it!) and sincere passion.
Lessons & tips:
Don't be too prescriptive. I got in trouble with my teacher for that.
"Sorry, I guess I get carried away and it turns into a novel, or poetry, even though I can't write those elsewhere."
"Don't be a playwright then!"
Think about why '28 Days Later' is just so good.
And yeah, yeah, time management. Even if it's absolutely terrifying, doing the easy bits helps you either remember how to do the hard bits, or reminds you how fun it can be and why you chose the task.
Pity I ran away for the most part instead!
