Instead of writing this I’m going to take a bike ride. No kidding.
    See ya later.

For me, it was a recumbent bike 2 years ago

In 2003, I was waay overweeight, had tried various things that did not work, like dieting, and jogging, which made me sick. So, after 15 years of motorcycle commuting (or subway on rainy days), I dusted off my old 10-speed and cruised to work, 7km (5mi). Slow, easy does it, and enjoyed the fresh air. Way home, the 10% slope was the killer. I had to get off red-faced, panting and had to push. Of course it was the bicycle, I needed something new. A hightech MTB with suspension was a dream since I had been 14 and we put 2-inch wide moped tires on our bikes to make them off-roadey. As I searched the web for suitable new bicycles, I stumbled on “recumbent’, A word I had not seen before. Looked it up, read up on it, thanks http://www.bentrideronline.com and finally test rode some and bought one in 2003 May.

Had so much fun ever since, commuting and building strenght, very gradually extending weekend mileage, that after 2 years I had shed over 20% of body weight and could climb the 10% slope home in 3rd gear (of 24). As a reward for making my weight goal, I bought a second recumbent, a fast one for the weekend. I am still riding rgularly to work. Two weeks ago I finally was ready to try 100 km and did it for the first time. Took 4 morning hours, mostly flatland came home without being exhausted. The photo shows my commuting recumbent.

    SPRING 2 years ago

Well today I rode from Home to the city. about 16 km. I had an accident on the way and kept going. It took me 1hr 15min that included 15 minutes to go pump up the tyres. I have only have a few bruises. I feel ok and not sore yet as in muscles. Next time I will stretch more. I did feel great doing it. I want to do more riding.

    Did another 15 miles today!

    Getting There 3 years ago

I’ve been doing about 15 miles a day…just not regularly. I love riding and I have a really nice bike, so all I have to do now is find the time.

Spend less on the bike... 3 years ago

...and spend it on the ‘bits and bobs’ around the edges. Get some quality shorts (feel the density of the chamois insert), some gloves and a comfy helmet. The gloves and the shorts will make riding a pleasure and the lack of any sore bits (OK, I lied. It might hurt a bit at first!) will eliminate one excuse for not getting back on the bike!
Have fun – it’ll make you feel like a kid again.

Too bad it's cold outside :-( 3 years ago

I’ve always loved bike riding. It’s kind of a thing with my family. I haven’t had a usable bike for a few years but I just got one for Christmas so I can start riding again! The only problem…it’s January.

    Bike Riding 4 years ago

I’ve been riding the bike to work and back each day.

I even ride her home at lunchtime, so she’s getting plenty of use.

After a few more months of this I’ll probably take this off as an accomplished goal.

    Wistful 4 years ago

Used to ride my mountain bike every morning at 5am with a friend … rode up and then down Leif Erickson (Portland, OR) avoiding the early morning runners/joggers … what a rush! Need to rediscover that excitement again …
