Yarn choices? 3 months ago

Anybody able to recommend a super-soft washable synthetic yarn I could make my afghan out of?

Okay- I’ve joined some of the granny squares- taken pictures of how the compleated piece will look when it’s done to help in piecing. Will do more tomorrow. MAY well have this done BEFORE july- hopefully before my daughters Birthday.

The slowest afghan ever 13 months ago

I’m about half done on my ripple afghan, which I started…oh, a year and a half ago. :) I actually started running low on yarn in certain colors, so I had to hit up the store to get some more. It’s moving faster now than when I started—it used to take me 45 minutes to crochet across once, now I can do it about twice as fast. And I’m hoping to finish it up before the end of the year, but we’ll see how much time I get to just sort of sit down and relax and work on it (which is something I don’t often do).

In the mean time, I have finished a small lap blanket (using the Lion Brand 5-1/2 Hour afghan pattern that they posted recently), which turned out remarkably ugly due to my stashbusting color choices. Oh well. I’m also working on a third afghan, this one the Lion Brand Crochet-Along they posted about two months ago, which is formed out of blocks, so I’ve been taking my blocks with me and working on them when I’m out and about, so I’m about 1/4 done with the blocks on that one. Hopefully the stashbusting I’m doing for it will be less ugly than the lap blanket. :)

Finished! 20 months ago

I was able to finish my snowflake afghan tonight! I’m usually pretty good about finishing crochet projects quickly, but this one had been sitting half finished for months. It’s a relief to finally have it completed and it looks beautiful hanging on the couch.

The eternal search for yarn 2 years ago

I specifically want to make a bright orange and blue afghan. My friend Angela wants to decorate her spare room in Boise State colors, so I need to find the right yarn. However, this is roving to be more difficult than I had expected. I’ve been to Michael’s, JoAnne’s Fabrics, Craft Warehouse, Fred Meyer’s – I even went to Walmart of all godforsaken places!!! I guess I’m going to have to order it online. There must be someplace that carries hideous school colors.

The afghan is horrible, but I’m a much better crocheter now :)

Progress! 2 years ago

My little ‘ghan is about 78cm/31” long now. I haven’t exactly decided how long to make it—6 feet seems to be traditional “couch size,” but I was thinking about maybe doing a more bedspread-sized one (though, admittedly, I haven’t actually tried to see if it’s wide enough to be a bedspread). So, based on a 7 foot length ‘ghan, I’m about 1/3 done! I picked it back up today after the “I live in Chicago and don’t have central air” summer hiatus, and I’m looking forward to being able to make more progress on it now. Cosy!

I reccomend that you learn if you dn’t already know how. It’s relaxing, and in the end, you get a something for all your hard work.

Star babyghan 2 years ago

That fab ghan that everyone loves because it’s adorable. Actually, I finished it a long time ago, just haven’t updated this yet.
I gave it to my mom, and she loves it.

I now have about 23 stripes done, going on 24, which brings me to about 60cm long, or about 1/3 done. Man, it’s warm! It’ll be so nice to have this winter, because my apartment is really … “well-ventilated.” :-) So that represents about 36 hours of crocheting. I feel pretty accomplished, for a newbie.

I only worry about one thing: I just instituted a yarn purchase ban for the next six months, to try and save money for something. So I hope I don’t run out of yarn before I’m done!!
