$1060. That will buy me almost a month of rent in Chicago when I move there. Awesome.
I plan to keep adding to this until I leave for China next month, by which time I should have about $1300. And THAT should be a month of rent. 5 years ago

I’m already well over halfway, and I’ve only been really consciously saving money for a month. When I get my paycheck, if I put my money away right away, I don’t even miss having it. I only spend money on lame impulse buys anyway, so I’m really not slowing down my high-roller lifestyle. 5 years ago

Since August, I have been living with my parents. Now, I get along FABULOUSLY with my parents. Almost disturbingly so. I don’t have to pay rent or anything. Nonetheless, living at home, at my age (24) just seems…not so cool, essentially.
HOWEVER-and I can’t believe I never really realized this-one of my friends who just switched jobs and is temporarily living at home again while she looks for a new place has mentioned that living at home isn’t so bad; it gives her a great opportunity to save money.
OH! So it does. This is probably why this goal has been going so well for me. The whole lack of bills and whatnot. This makes sense. Thanks for letting me mooch, parents!
Also, thanks to the U.S. Treasury for giving me a check that I am going to add in full toward this goal. 6 years ago

I call it my “Be a fucking ADULT” fund. I just think that maybe perhaps one day in the future I would like to not live with my parents. And I would especially like to not live with my parents in Chicago. So I guess there sort of is a real reason, it’s just very ambiguous right now.
I think meeting this shouldn’t be a big problem. I’m almost halfway there already. I wish I would’ve realized ages ago how accomplished I feel when I save money. 6 years ago
