I am kinda bored by the old foreign policy chapter. I’ve heard it a million times before and it’s outdated. I really fell asleep while reading it. I need to skim to the next chapter.
How I did it: I bought this book on a bit of an impulse, but seeing the energy of his inauguration inspired me to put this book to work. I started by saying, I am going to read this in two days, but that's just ridiculous. It is a readable biography, but it slows towards the end with issues that were of importance nearly pre-election so it's a little redundant and out of touch with the present day issues. Granted, it is a good discussion of the now presents view of the world, but I couldn't help but wish I had read a more current book.
Lessons & tips: Take a bite at a time or only read the parts that really interest you.
Resources: 43T encouragement and reminders that this is something I want to accomplish. I can add $10 to my passport fund now!

I’ve only got to a couple chapters left. I hope to finish before the inauguration!

I read the race section pretty quickly. It’s just always been something that gets my brain and blood pumping. I totally understand where he’s coming from. I know it’s like really liberal of me to think this, but I kinda got uncomfortable when Obama talks about religion and the church as the only social center for people in poverty to convene and encourage good moral values. Sure, he does talk about improving schools (good, check) and he includes some information about how better jobs that hire a whole person will help all people (good, yes, not just a particular race) but I do think that we need to work on more secular places for reinforcing core values besides religious centers. I just don’t know how.

Quite general, but thought provoking.
A little too general.
While at the book store I realized that Barak has another book with his explicit plans, which may be more of what I wanted from the book, but it was a good history.
The next section, Race, should be good to read to get me psyched for my job.

I had an interesting conversation regarding this book last night. Very useful! I also picked up a new book called, “Traffic.” It is fantastic! I highly recommend it. It’s now competition.

Yeah! I read this far and so far I can say it’s totally doable when I put my mind to it. If I am really dedicated, I can lose sight of other goals I want to meet, but it’s a good start. I know the rest of the book needs to appeal to me more, but it has been pretty generalized and it may just be a good hook to get to the specifics.
I do want to write down some key ideas and topics. Maybe I should just type them here!
