So I just finished my first CS hosting experience! It was one of a kind, truly excellent. He was a med student in town applying for residency at a local hospital.
The first night he invited me out to an informal residency dinner that the hospital was putting on. Free booze, free food, good people. A good behind the scenes experience into the life of a to-be doctor.
The second day he had his interview. After work, I took him to my favorite dive bar, where we met up with another residency student from TX – Jose-Miguel. The three of us scored some $20 tickets to Vampire Weekend that was playing next door. Very random but very good! I then took then up to another favorite bar which was kind of slow, but a good ending.
Michael was very appreciative of the couch and we promised to keep in touch. I now have a friend in Minneapolis and have paid my CS experience in Europe forward. I told him to do the same.

Michael from Minnesota is planning on staying with me this weekend. He’s applying for a job here in Portland. Very close to completing this goal!

I also couch-surfed in Europe (Austria) and would love to return the favor and show others how Americans REALLY are :) unfortunately there’s not so much draw to where I live right now, so it might be some time before I get to do this.

Type: Social
Why: To return the favor. I couch surfed 4-5 pads in Europe, saving us hundreds of dollars and gaining fun new local experiences. Each host was really fun and left a lasting memory for me, so I’m sure hosting would be a blast. I did host a guy once, but he had just moved to town and was looking for a house, not so much a traveling couch surfer. I would really like someone from overseas, but I’ll take what I can get.
