How to live on a narrowboat

Entries

Finally! 8 months ago

My girlfriend and I just completed purchase on our gorgeous 21 year old narrowboat! 54 foot long, full of superficial problems but the hull and the engine are sound, so in the next few weeks we’ll be off touring the canals! In time we’ll rip out the gas heating and get a Morso Squirrel in there, maybe fit a compost loo if we’re feeling particularly daring! I can’t wait! :D

Dream 2 years ago

The “live on a Narrowboat” goal represents my long term goal of becoming a self-sufficient, itinerent, semi-retired online remote worker.

To get there I’m always orientating towards internet based activities, especially those which may eventually yield a residual income.

There’s also the aspect of reorganising my house so that it will become suitable for renting out.

Are you sure? 4 years ago

It depends if you mean “live” ... or have a holiday. The former is very tricky; you have to downsize all your belongings, put up with things getting damp and musty, and be very handy at repairs (it’s like a car and house all rolled into one). But if you mean holiday, then that’s much better and you’ll have a wonderful time!

Brecon 4 years ago

The Brecon and Monmouth canal is wonderful, and the town of Brecon has much to commend it, but this canal doesn’t connect up to the national network so while it would be great for a short break holiday, it isn’t really suitable for the live-aboard continuous cruising lifestyle.

Save up enough money to spend 2 weeks on a boat this summer.
