volunteer for something I believe in

Still doing my AA stuff, and now with school, I am very busy, still promote Fair Districts Florida.

So this is done, as all my efforts are becoming more concentrated these days.

sponsoring two people, going well. So doing something positive here.

on collecting signatures at the AIDS benefit walk in March, which should be a lot of people with similar outlooks on politics, who are not in a hurry and will have time to discuss and fill out the forms.

I’ll start with a modest goal there, like 10 signatures.

and I haven’t done it for awhile. So I want to get back at it. I have a cause too.

It’s FairDistrictsFlorida.org, which is to stop gerrymandering in the state of Florida. Gerrymandering is the process where voting districts are altered to keep the prevailing party in office. How that works out here in Florida is that even tho Democrats are 42 percent of the registered voters as opposed to 37 percent Republican, the Republicans manage to control 2/3 of the Florida Legislature. Most districts are so gerrymandered that the candidates so uncontested. I was shocked to realize that Florida is actually a blue state (and what a joy when it went for Obama). I just want this state to accurately be accountable to all of the people. A very sad example were the elections of 2000, where a lot of political chicanery allowed W. to beat Gore for President, and we all know how that turned out. I think this would have been a lot harder to pull off if things were more balanced. Many of us here in Fla feel a collective guilt over this towards the country and the world.

So we have an opportunity to change that, as the Florida Supreme Court has allowed a proposed change to the Fla. Constitition to prevent gerrymandering, and have districts that are drawn towards city, and geographic boundaries. This will give us all a voice.

But they need over a million signatures to put this on the ballot. This is where I come in, and I’m going to do what I can to get those signatures. We have a year to do it, and I know the Republicans will fight this every step of the way. So that’s the project I believe in for now. I’ll print out the paperwork, go get copies, and start circulating it. I think one of my friends will help.

I volunteer about 4 days a week in the afternoons, sometimes in the mornings for each of my children’s classes for whatever their teachers want me to do. Often it includes for Hannalee’s class a lot of copying of things, cutting, sorting, organizing and periodically helping the students.

For Sean’s class, his teacher often wants me to interact and help with the children. I love being able to assist the teachers and being a blessing.

This is totally worth it because I get to know what my kids are doing, know the teachers, kids, and other parents. It’s totally awesome.

ski season is fast approching my town and i’ll be vollunteering for the ski patrol. last year i was a paid staff and had a blast, should be a good year this year

Well, it’s December 22 and i’ve vollenteered twice now, once before we opened and yesterday. I haven’t taken any calls yet but i did put pads on a run we’ll open soon. the day before though, i came on a scene and called it in to dispatch and stayed until the sled came and she went to first aid

I’ve been wanting to volunteer for SAFE for a long time. Helping animals is something I really want to do, and at the moment I don’t feel like i’m doing enough. Well nothing active, just passive, by not contributing to an industry I don’t agree with by being vegan. So today at the SAFE store (Save Animals From Exploitation for those who don’t know) I picked up a form to volunteer my time.. since I have so much of it!

i thought i already posted this as done, but anyway. it is good, fulfilling. i would reccomend it to anybody. not only will it help you make new friends and further a cause, but it will help you to be a better part of your community and to appreciate it.

This is a great organization. Join a Humane Society in your state. You get to see animals, and gain life experience.

I have joined with CAV and we do networking and training throughout to inner city. We target high crime areas and the youth because they are our future. I love the idea of doing something for the community and within the community.
