How to be physically fit

Be physically fit for life 1 month ago

I am going to be physically fit for the rest of my life. I will be my ideal body weight. I will continuously eat the right types of food. I will exercise until I have: kicked the bucket, bought the farm, bit the big kahuna, etc.

Reporting Progress 11 months ago

I have been jogging each morning (or afternoon) the past 2 days. I dare not do pull ups at the fitness corner. I can’t do them and am afraid to be laughed at.

Oh well, I will do it eventually if I ever want to be prepared for the fitness test.

Exuding Confidence by having a fitter body 11 months ago

I have a goal to exude confidence. Yet, for the goal to happen, I’ve got to tone my body.

I’ve noticed myself altering my posture to hide my tummy and minimise the appearance of my naturally huge arse.

This Saturday, I shall begin an exercise and diet routine to work on this issue.

My exercise routine is suited for both indoors and outdoors. Instead of conventional exercises that would bore me, I’ve decided to do Taekwondo kicks, and stair-climbing as part of the routine.

The diet doesn’t count calories. I just have to follow two rules:

  • Eat slowly to allow the stomach to feel full
  • Don’t eat once the stomach feels full

These rules seem like commonsense. However, I’m used to eating quickly and pushing my stomach to the limit. The rationale of eating slowly is to allow my stomach time to feel full. It is said that the stomach takes a while to feel full after you eat.

That said, I’ll be meeting my classmates to exercise (trekking, swimming and others) once a week to keep the motivation going.

All the best to everyone else on their goals!

Start by doing 100 seat ups and push ups daily when i wake up and before i retire to bed.

Jog 2.4KM 3 times weekly and increase progressively to 5 times weekly.

Gym workout at least 2 times weekly to tone body and to improve arms’ and torso’s strength.

little steps 18 months ago

I have teetered with my weight and body image my whole life. Many people will disagree but believe me, my self confidence is only a facade.

I have lost 25 lbs then gone up 15 and back down again since college. I have learned this…make small, realistic goals. Example…rather than say you will work out 5 times in a week…START WITH THREE! If you can do more…great but the mental game is just as important as the physical. If you can achieve three one week…do it a second week. The third week make it four if you want. Always start with small, achievable goals.

Second, just put your sneakers on and go out. That’s the first step. Once you get there its not that bad. At the very least force yourself to go there. Say to yourself that you’ll at least walk/jog one mile…then if you do more great if not you still achieved your goal and did better than sitting on your couch.

Third,CHANGE IT UP…the same routine gets boring…get a partner or have multiple that you meet with so your routine is different. Also, changing the exercise is key to working other muscles. After 3-4 weeks your muscles get used to the exercises you are doing and is less work for them even if you are doing the same amount. SOOO …if you are a biker…use the elyptical or jog.

Finally, reward yourself. Example, when I lost 10lbs I will go get a manicure or take myself out to dinner.

I am weak. I also have a pretty bad back, and energy problems. It figure’s that both of those problems serve as a way for my to justify NOT getting into shape, when being active would actually help those problems. Well, I finally started to take control of my mind and it’s tendency for bad rationalization. Today I received a few yoga dvds that I’m optimistic about, and I scouted some trails that I can walk. I’m going to do this, I’m going to succeed, AND I’m going to pace myself so I don’t hurt my back and have another set back.

& not realising... 2 years ago

I didn’t realise how fit I’d actually become until this past week. We were out in the bush for work (as usual), carrying out our flora surveys (as usual), and it wasn’t until I got back to the car at 11 am that I realised I’d just walked 15 kilometres with a 10 kilo backpack in a little under two and a half hours.

It’s not something I’m going to stop doing – I’d still like to improve my fitness, but it was a bit of a wake-up call to realise exactly how much I’ve already improved.

Next step: join the gym!

Not out of shape 2 years ago

I’m definitely not out of shape. I just want to be in the best shape of my life. My goal is to train for high elevation endurance. I’ll be spending a lot of time over 13000ft. this summer and I want to be ready for it.
