chelsea sees shadow people
like in altered states? crazy!!
I have found a place in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne that seem to offer a good service so I am definitely going to check it out when I am back there properly for University in February. I might make it a monthly occurrence or something. It definitely intrigues me at the very least!
selfinspired Aspiring to be something more.
I’m thinking of treating myself and my mother to a little spa escape for my birthday. This will be a perfect time to try out a floatation tank. I’d like to do a package including a 1 hr massage, 1 hr float and 1 hr sauna stint possibly. Or something similar. And honestly, my birthday truly belongs to my mom too. After all, she’s the one who did all the work that special day many years ago. ;)
For later reference (for myself), possibly: Common Ground
I went to Float in Notting Hill (http://www.float.co.uk). The staff were excellent, very professional and attentive.
I personally didn’t find it as relaxing as expected – though the receptionist said that sometimes it does take a couple of sessions to get used to it. I think that people who enjoy having long soaks in the bath would find it easier to get used to the experience and relax much sooner than I did.
There are so many unusual things to take in – the enclosed space (you can leave the hatch door open, but it does mean you let some of the heat out), the darkness (but there is an internal light for those nervous about left in the dark), the sound of the water lapping against the sides…
I’m a very poor swimmer, so it was nice to experience floating in the warm salt water without worrying whether I was going to capsize. But boy did it sting when it got into your eyes! (If I remember correctly, there was a bottle of non-salt water inside the tank which I used to rinse them out).
Definitely worth experiencing for yourself, even if just for the novelty factor – and I would recommend going to Float.
benjamenus is wasting time onthe internet!
Interesting experience. Can’t say it is one that I’d hurry to repeat, however, worth doing. I was very impressed with The Floatworks (http://www.floatworks.com/) near London Bridge so would happily recommend them.
If you do wish to try this yourself, one tip … don’t get the water in your eyes, it’s a killer!
calamar is waiting for a baby boy to show up
hopefully i’ll get around to this in the new year
maybe i’ll even have an existential freak out
(keeping my fingers crossed)
Here’s the link to a directory of places in the US that offer floatation sessions. http://www.floatforhealth.net/floatdirectory.htm
Check it out, there may be one near you!

I have always vaguely thought that this would be a nice thing to do, but the reason it is one of the first things I thought of for my list is semioticghosts’ comment on my LJ review of “The Battersea Park Road to Enlightenment” by Isabel Losada about how wonderfully relaxing it is.
