It’s been a few weeks since I started. Self-taught, thanks to the internet. Alphabet? Check. I’ve got some vocab down and a few basic phrases, thanks to dramas and k-pop. I wish I had more time, but high school? Yeah, not so much free time. I’m going to get a Korean-English dictionary, but again, not much time to actually try to learn. I’m hoping to be able to construct my own basic sentences by the end of the school year. I love learning languages and they’re not too hard, so we’ll see how this goes.

Hmmm… well because my parents say I have a knack for languages, I actually think I can accomplish this. Plus, I would reallllllly like to understand Korean songs and dramas /:
Haha it’s not a very good reason ><

y3nd0 is seriously trying to learn Korean and lose weight at the same time!
Learning to speak Korean (fluently) is difficult! I believe I have a knack for picking up languages fairly quickly. I speak Vietnamese (and can read, partially write), a Chinese dialect (similar to Cantonese), and can read and write English pretty well, but Korean is extremely difficult to learn, as with any other language. I have already taken a Korean class for a year at a community college and thought I learned a bit… but now that I’m taking it at a uni (I am retaking the first year), I realize that there is a LOT of basic grammar and vocabulary that I have not learned!
I’m still pushing though… I really want to learn Korean enough to survive by myself in Korea for two months (that’s the plan after uni).
If anyone is experiencing hardships with learning this language, fear not! You’re not the only one out there!

Dooffodil Life is a shoebox of dooffodils and doosies
With the lack of internet connectivity in recent weeks, I have been spending my free time exploring the various gadets and accessories that came along with the basic computer.
I found this tool (called Tablet PC Input Panel) where there’s a panel for writing on which it then converts into typed text. It tickles me to see how handmouse-writing looks on the screen, and I was flabbergasted to see it’s able to recognise several other languages as well, including Korean.
So this not only allows me to be able to write Korean on the computer, it might also serve to be a handy tool for checking whether I’ve written the characters correctly. Perhaps someday I’ll have a Korean penpal to converse with, when I’m more familiar with the language.

polaris001 is listening to Radiohead and getting things done
I finally started taking lessons once each week. It has helped, but I need to study more regularly.

xHuggles Trying to learn Korean, lose weight and heighten up.
KOREAN<3! I think it’s a wonderful language. I’m Chinese and half Vietnamese. But I find it too common. I want to be unique and learn other Asian languages. I think it will open more doors for me :]. I love korean songs because of the beat melody and vocals. I feel bad taht I can’t understand their hard work. I want to appreciate. Korean Korean! I’m currently using KoreanClass101.com
It’s an awesome site I recommend it to everyone!

introduced me to Korean culture. My love for the dramas fuels my desire to learn the language. I am in the process of getting Rosetta Stone and I am planning on signing up for the basic Korean class at the Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles.

Jamie Hinds The Time to be Happy is Now, the Place to be Happy is Here.
and his mother speaks it fluently. And I enjoy listening to the language more than any other Asian language. So Korean has now beat out my desire to learn Gaelic in the order of languages.

Just started to scratch the surface of the Korean alphabet. I think Korean would complete a nice trio of Chinese, Japanese & Korean, including English, who needs any other language? :) Love that Korean can sound so ‘snappy’ yet cute at other times!
I am confusing some similar (actually it all looks similar) looking letters that I’m struggling remembering them. I really want to learn it!

Hello, I love Korean people and their language. I live in the South San Francisco Bay, i.e. Mountain View…I wonder if there are any native Korean speakers who live around here that would want to have a language exchange??
