Marched in the Falls Fest Parade with my kids and their 4-H group.
How to march in a parade
How I did it: Being in my high school (and now college) marching band required that I march in numerous parades. Most of them were lame local parades that I loathed. I love marching, but not in parades. The only parades I have enjoyed were the two that my band did in Disney world.
People doing this are also doing these things:

two of them I marched and one was on a float. I definitely preferred marching, because it was warmer since I was moving around! I was absolutely FROZEN on the float.
I hate marking things “not worth doing” on here because I wouldn’t ever go back and not do something if I had the change to go back in time… and everything is worth doing in that it contributes to your character and blah di blah… but parades suck. At least the ones I’ve been in. I’d rather be on a float than marching for several miles.
but I’m sure I’d bring a certain style, a specific quality, an indescribable “joie de vivre” to the event.
Everything I do, absolutely every fucking thing I do I do with aclarity and focus and intent; I’d give marching in a parade my all .
I marched in parades all the time during high school. Being in marching band, I really had no choice in the matter.
Not all parades were bad, but every August the Pro Football Hall of Fame Parade turned into a death march. That 2.2 mile parade route seemed far longer. I always wondered how people marching in longer parades (Macy’s, Tournament of Roses) handled it.
One of the happiest days of my life was after I finished my final Hall of Fame parade in the summer of 1994.
Now, if I were riding on a float or in a convertible, perhaps I’d enjoy it more . . .

The Macy’s Day Parade Honor Band is also really fun, but a lot of money.
