How to climb the Great Wall
How I did it: Our tour stopped at one of those tourist spots that lets you get to section of the Wall in Peking. I knew we were only going to be there for a few hours, but I wanted to climb passed at least two of those towers. The stairs were really really steep, and completely worn on one side. I only managed half way to the second tower before screaming "just go on without me!"
Lessons & tips: Wear comfortable shoes and bring water! It doesn't matter how tempting a Dove bar can be, it does nothing to hydrate you. Buying your souvenir "I climb the Great Wall" t-shirt means so much more if you actually get it at the stand at the Wall instead of in the gift shop by the entrance.

I climbed the Great Wall from the Badaling section in Beijing. It is one of the more tourist friendly (traps)sections where the visitor is given the opportunity to experience a steep climb, a relatively easy incline, flat grounds and dangerous cliffs on one side of the wall.
It is a truly magnificent sight, like a giant dragon that crawls its way through mountaintops in graceful bends and silhouette. I can only imagine though, when horses and men ran through its length with arrows and spears raining from the sky in the cry of battle with the advancing Mongols on one side.
However, my soliloquy was cut short upon seeing a bride and groom in full regalia, climb through the Great Walls to seal their union. Indeed, the Great Wall has ceased to be the dividing fortification that it used to be. It now stood as a symbol of eternal strength by which blissful unions are immortalized.
