Buying the ticket is worth it because of the time spent fantasizing about how you would spend the money. For that short period of time you are a millionaire.
How I did it: My fiance and I were in Georgia on our way back from Atlanta to Alabama. I was a Sunday and we felt like buying some beer to drink when we got back since beer isn't sold on Sunday in most of Alabama. (Darn conservatives I know, right?) Well we were too close to Alabama by this point so we stopped at 4 gas stations in GA and none would sell us anything. However, the last gas station we went to near the border is the #1 place for the Gerogia Lottery. Well go figure, since Alabama has no lottery so we all just go to Georgia to play and thats the first one we see! We decided if we couldn't get beer we would play the lottery for the first time! We spent $4 on tickets and didn't win, but the suspense and imagining was fun, nonetheless!
Lessons & tips: If you don't get addicted, it's a small investment of at least $1 so you might as well try it once! You never know if you'll get beginner's luck! If you live in a state with no lottery like I do, just take the opportunity while traveling.
Resources: Georgia Lottery I guess haha

I sometimes play the large lotteries. I realize that I’m more likely to get struck by lightning multiple times but you can’t win if you don’t play.
purplefibermom feels hung-over even though I didn't drink anything last night
so I don’t bother to waste my $$. I’ve also thought through the what ifs on winning a super big payout and decided that it would probably ruin my life (as it seems to ruin most winners). Relationships are more important to me than $$.
It will never be considered a source of income, because we’d starve, but it is a source of entertainment. :)
...but it cracks me up every time:
“The lottery is a tax for people who don’t understand statistics.”
My aunt won about $5,000 on a pick-six once, and I know someone else who won something like $500. Both were on $1 tickets. I’m going to say this is worth it.
It’s a nice little thrill, as long as you don’t go too crazy.
I find it a waste of money. I worked at a Convenience store once and there were a few guys addicted to gambling, and they would come in every day and spend 100 dollars at the least on tickets and sometimes they would win but most of the time they lost and sometimes they would play until they won but not gaining all their money back when they did.. One night this guy bought 500 dollars worth of Nevada tickets and only won about 200! Its just a waste of money I think
