Make a feature film

I would ideally like to become a movie director eventually, but I don’t think I could see my life as being fuflfilled if I hadn’t made at least one feature film. Not neccessarily professionally funded or anything, it could just be something I do with some friends. As long as it’s at least 85 minutes long.

This is pretty much my life goal, I’m a film major, I’ve been making movies since the fifth grade, planning to move to LA next year and start working on sets and writing more screenplays. To me, film is the consummate art, the best encapsulation of movement, emotion, meaning, and a lavishness of telling yet economy of story that is unmatched in this world. Only music can touch us the same way, and even then it is ephemeral and difficult to describe.

If I have one two hour sequence of images that I think truly speaks to the truth of life and people published somewhere, I can die happy.

My best friend and I have been talking about directing a full-length feature film for a year or so. We want to make a musical about college life . . . basically the antithesis of “High School Musical.”
We start writing for the soundtrack next week.

This is something that I would absolutely love to do.

No digital video, just a great story with solid non professional actors. 60’s French New Wave for modern audiences…

we have the script, we have the marketing concept, just need the dosh.

we need $300k do do it real budget. I’m prepared to put up $150k on the house, but would like other sources, only if we retain creative control.

would prefer $1 mil. but that will take lots more creative fundraising :)

Timeframe: begin shooting NZ summer 2009

I have some shorts, but really would like to direct a feature. I love film and have enjoyed every single minute I spent on making them except some of the editing, which was done in a college lab, so everyone may understand. I am not the best script writer, but I have so many ideas, I can’t seem to contain them. I am good and would love the chance to work my heart out. I will. It has to be soon. No time left.

My production company had our first official day of shooting two weeks ago. We can’t shoot again until December, but after the start of the year, we should be able to get a lot more done. Suhwheet!!!

Start filming in January…I’m bouncing off the walls!! :D
