How I did it: Buy a kite or make one. Here are my instructions for the Quick 'n' Easy Makeshift kite.Materials:- newspaper - 2 thin sticks or twigs, which should both be longer than the length of the newspaper.- cotton thread (but dental floss might do the job better)- scissors 1. Cut 1 page from the newspaper and make little slots at each corner.2. Place 1 twig diagonally across the paper, placing it into the slots. Do the same with the other twig, so… Read how I did it…
How I did it: Some friends randomly invited me to fly kites with them a few weeks back, so I packed up a few kites and went off to the park to fly them. It only took me 1 day to fly the kites, but much longer than that to actually get around to doing so. Read how I did it…

How I did it: I was with someone I loved the first time. It was a tye dye kite we bought at the local shop by the beach. It had been a horrible day with hurt feelings and crying and we let our souls fly in the sky with the kite. The second time I did it by myself and I felt a sweet release. The third...well...it got stuck in power lines =] Read how I did it…

How I did it: All you need is a good Kite, a thread or whatever you call it, and then you need to learn when to push the string and when to release it...it's easy to learn by watching someone....doing it...Hope this much is sufficient Read how I did it…
How I did it: "Let's Go Fly a Kite"I had taken two graduate courses in information studies in London over the summer. One of our activities was to go to Primrose Hill in Regent's Park and fly a kite like Mary Poppins. I had a plastic Dr. Seuss kite that only required taking it out of the bag, attaching two rods, and the string. My kite went flying into the air without the need of someone lifting it. However, my professor had an … Read how I did it…

We gave our daughter a kite to her 4th birthday (she’s 5 now!) and never, not once had/take the time to go out and let it fly.
I’m ashamed…
Well, now I have the time, there is a nice big open lawn where we can easily let it fly and the winds are perfect these days. So maybe we’re going outside to let it fly this afternoon or tomorrow.
Danadanadana Rearranging and revamping
was my most successful attempt to date. However, it still wasn’t windy enough. The kite stayed high in the air for about 20 seconds before losing altitude and crashing. The wind isn’t constant enough – and that’s even at a renowned kite flying location 40 minutes away from home!
I think the problem in Vancouver is that the only time it’s windy enough to properly fly a kite, it’s also rainy and cold and generally miserable outside. Boo!
Maybe I need a different shape of kite to start with. Mine’s a stunt kite, and the only stunt I can make it do is a nosedive.
I have wanted to do this for a long time! So while on vacation in Kitty Hawk a few weeks ago I was inspired! I went to a kite shop, and bought an inexpensive but quality starter kite in the shape of a dragon. Brought it out onto the beach, and in less than 5 minutes it was flying high! It is uplifting, and somewhat meditative. I was only focused on being on the beach and keeping my kite up high – everything else faded into the background. Now that I have my own kite, I will definitely keep this up!
I know we took Spencer to fly a kite when he was pretty young, and maybe once on the beach. But I’d definitely like to do it more often.
NualaBuala has missed 43T and the lovely folk here so much!
Good old Aldi had kites for sale so I picked one up today at a great price. It’s got really nice colours. Now I’ve just got to find time and space to fly it!
I got a kite at a yard sale for 50 cents! Just need a nice windy day to try it out.
