I’d never had a flat tyre in the 4 years I was driving and then bam, 2 in one week! The first one happened after running over something, I’d always wondered if I wondered if I knew what a flat tyre would be like and yeah, I knew. Where was the spare tyre? at home! stupid place to have it and I don’t remember why it wasn’t in the car. Luckily I wasn’t too far from home so I just crawled the car back home.
The second time was after picking up a nail, it was a slow one so happened over night and what annoyed me is some neighbour watched me struggle get the wheel off and came over to offer his services AFTER I had just managed to remove it, he “helped” by saying “kicking it often helps loosen it if it’s been on for a while” Why thanks, I’d just found that out myself.
Fingers crossed it won’t happen again for some time.

i dont live in the safest city, and if it ever happens to me, i want to be able to change that tire, and get back on the road…i would imagine that it would be diffacult to change a tire while holding a flashlight (maybe)and a phone with someone on the other end giving me directions

Leela showed me how.. I found where the spare is hidden in my car, and all the little tools, and the little book showing me how to do it all in case I forget, and I got to jump on the turny thingy to loosen the bolts… the hardest part was putting it back on, because I couldn’t lift it… which makes me remember, I should work on my upper body strength.
But YAY! I can now change a tire!

Audrey has been in her pjs all day, and has no guilt about it.
It’s easy, and I think it can be very foxy (I love to see ladies and gents working on a car, no matter how small the fix), not to mention helpful when you’re in the middle of the desert and AAA is more than a couple hours away. I’ve probably had to change 4 flat tires on the side of roads and freeways since I started driving 6 years ago (I’ve changed a friends spark plugs on the side of the road too). I have done it a couple times in a pencil skirt and heels, and yes, I take pride in that. I think being able to change a flat is a sign of a strong, independent, hot woman (or, in some cases man; my dreamboat doesn’t change his own flats…).

A Funny Thing

I have been asking my guy friends for a LOONNNGGG time to teach me how to change a tire, but whenever any of us get together, there was always something more exciting going on, so I have been putting it off. Last night, before I left home to go to a Christmas party, I realized my left front tire was flatter than usual and it had a pressure of less than 10… SO NOT GOOD! So this morning, with the help of my DAD, I learned how to change a tire… It wasn’t too defficult :)

all of us girls learn a bit about the vehicles we drove before we took them out of the driveway!
I learned how to change a tire when I was sixteen years old! I am now 46 and have changed more tires than I care to think about! It’s a good thing to know how to do though, especially where I live! I drive those country roads out in the middle of nowhere for the pleasure of it all and I better know how to change a tire when one goes flat! Yeah, I could pick up the cell phone and call someone to come do it for me and I probably will do that the next time I have flat out in the middle of nowhere, but if the cell isn’t working I will know how to do it myself!

I’ve changed more tires than I can count. It’s not that hard really. The hardest part for me is finding a place to put all that junk you have to move to get the spare out of the trunk.
I did have to flag down a motorist once and borrow his lug wrench. I stopped at the parts store on the way home and bought a new one after that time.

My stepdad made me learn to do this before he’d let me get my license. Because he was worried about me.
I didn’t appreciate him when I was a kid; I feel much more kindly toward him now that he’s 83 and in failing health. That’s hardly fair of me, somehow.
But everyone should know how to do this.

when i was a grad. student at baylor, one of my guy friends got a flat tire. given that he was clueless and a bit flustered, i helped him change his flat tire. not that i’m any expert. but, i was much calmer and collected. helped him figure how to use the jack, i did.
