Got it!  — 19 hours ago

So, my application was approved, and I have the house! Twelve days and it will be all mine. Of course, I may take in a roommate to cut costs, but still, it will be my name on the lease. Even if I do take a roommate, that will only be the two of us living there, not the 4-6 that are there now.

I have a lot of things to buy to make this place mine, since all the furniture, dishes, toiletries, electronics, etc belong to my current roommates. Hopefully I can get most of the stuff used for cheap at thrift stores or from classifieds, or even free via freecycle.

One of the things I’m looking forward to is decorating this place in my own style. I have a few ideas, such as LED tube lights around the ceiling in the bedroom for “mood lighting.”

Anyway, I’ll mark this as done, though it’s too early to tell if it’s “worth it” just yet. I’m excited, though, and quite relieved.

    Worth doing!

I’ve been living on my own for about 5 months now. Small one bedroom in the BX… but its mine. I needed to move out of my mother house…. I need to be independent and have room to grow. Rent in NY it a B*H! But I love having my freedom and room to grow…so I’ll work hard to keep it.

    Application  — 2 days ago

I’ve put in an application and holding deposit on a townhouse – the same one I’m living in now. I thought it was already rented, but it fell through, so I might be able to get it.

It would be convenient. I wouldn’t have to move, it’s affordable, and it’s right in the area I like. I already know the small problems with the place, and it feels a bit like home since I’ve been there awhile.

It will be lonely after my roommates – my best friends – move out, but I suppose I can find a new roomie to help with rent.

I should hear about it today or tomorrow. I’m hopeful.

I live with my brother and his family at the moment.
I just moved to a new town for school, and am working part time so the money is not really available at the moment.
I’m scheduling classes next year to be able to work full time and am saving money so hoping by January I’ll have my own place!

    Difficulties  — 5 days ago

It’s tough finding an apartment in this city, especially with school starting soon and students moving in. A lot of places in the downtown area are terrible or overpriced. I have an appointment to see one this afternoon, hopefully it goes well.

    A start  — 1 week ago

My Dad started looking at condos for me at the weekend and now he and I are going to look at a few condos in about half an hour. I don’t expect anything to come of it, but just looking is a step further forward~

    Well...  — 1 week ago

My boyfriend and I are having serious conversations about it, and know it’s something we want to do. We bought all kinds of stuff for our kitchen yesterday. (We agreed it would be better to get the basics now so when we move in we don’t have extraneous expenses right away.)
    ...but…
I have to learn to stop spending the way I have been. My current bills are half of what I make, and at the moment, all of my pants for work have something wrong with them. (Seams torn up to the knee; holes in the rear; etc.) And I have only one pair of pants to wear for non-work days.
    Meh.
I hope it happens. He’s taking it seriously; he deserves a girl who’s taking it seriously also.

Back out on the town :P  — 1 week ago

    Worth doing!

So, I’m living in Pensacola right now… In the cutest 1926 Craftsmen home- completely redone by my land lord. ADORABLE. Love it. Have no furniture right now, but…. a house is a house :D

It's not much, but it's mine  — 1 week ago

The thing that overwhelms me sometimes is the silence. He couldn’t stand to be in the house without the TV on- I don’t like using it as background noise, so I don’t.

I do still have the cats, at least. Can one ever really be alone when one has pets?

The next thing I want to do is declutter significantly. For just one person, I have a LOT of “stuff”. I’m not even sure where to begin with that. I suppose I could start in my bedroom and work my way around the house? Maybe I’ll add it to my list. :)

Been putting this off too long  — 1 week ago

My roommates are moving to a different part of the province at the end of the month, so I have to do this asap. I’m going to be looking at apartments the next couple of days, hopefully have a place by the end of the week.

Robyn asks, “I live in a very expensive city (Boston), and I have a fabulous 2BR apartment that I'm sharing with a good friend until May. The conundrum: Stay and pay for it myself and enjoy my space, or get a roommate to save money for a house one day?”
