My French is definitely coming along, and after 8 months in Paris next year, maybe I’ll be able to hit the “I’ve done this” button (not that I’m using that as an indicator of success: many of my goals (eg “To be well read”) are ongoing.
Anyway, the point of this entry is that French is the language I will focus on to obtain fluency in.

I am beginning a diploma in French at uni next year (at least, I’ve applied, haven’t gained acceptance yet… though my marks this year will be good enough to get me in, I’m pretty sure). In a couple of years, in the European Summer (ie July/August) before I go on exchange, I want to spend a month or two learning the language in Paris.
I also want to be proficient in a few languages. I can already speak reasonable German, having learnt it at school and gone on exchange to North Rhein Westphalia a couple of years ago, and am attempting to not let that slip. I was recently given a novel in German, the sequel to a book I read last year and really enjoyed, so I will read that once I’m finished my current book. I am going to Italy next year as part of choir tour and have bought myself a Teach Yourself Italian book and CD set! Other languages I would love to learn include Russian and Arabic. After spending five weeks in Nepal this January I will also know a little Nepali!

Well basically I love learning foreign languages – I’m most likely going to study French and German at uni – and it’s always been one of my dreams to eventually become fluent in something other than English. I just think it’d be awesome to be able to go to another country and just…well obviously not sound quite like a native, but as near to that as possible! I could just learn a bit of zillions of languages, but if I had a choice I’d rather get really good at just a couple – I figure it’s more impressive :P lol
