How I did it: I normally get my hair trimmed every 4-5 weeks. (I say "normally" but, really, this is a relatively recent development. I used to have long hair and only get it cut once or twice a year.) After a string of too-short haircuts, however, I decided to take a break from that routine. It was well above chin length and the cuts were not flattering at all. I considered growing it out past my shoulder, as I was really missing the ability to put my hair in a pony tail, but as it grew I realized I appreciate the convenience of shorter hair too much to let it grow that long. It's now approaching chin length and I finally like the way it looks. I'll keep it this way for a little while longer and then find a new stylist. Read how I did it… 4 weeks ago
This is what my hair looks like now without the bangs. This is what I want it look like.
I don’t think I can’t get there before my wedding. 1 month ago
I’ve been growing out my bangs too (because they were a bad idea in the first place). They touch my nose right now, so hopefully they’ll be out of the way in a few months for summer! I’m planning on getting my next haircut in mid-April, so it looks decent for prom. 1 month ago
My natural hair is a dim auburn hair and I want it back! I impulsively dyed my hair coffee bean brown, a couple months ago i impulsively got a hair cut and then person who cut my hair cut it way to damn short. I want to grow it longer and regain my natural hair colour. 1 month ago
I loved my long hair and when it was cut very short by my dad when I was 7, I cried my eyes out. After that, I’m sure it was more than just that, but I’ve never been able to grow my hair out longer than them touching my shoulders. I’m also an impulsive hair cutter so it’s been really hard to leave the scissors alone. 1 month ago
Around 3 years ago, I had my hair cut short. Not too short, just above my shoulders and I wasn’t satisfied with it. I needed real change – the one where I didn’t look like I did previously. And so I cut it again a year later – and it was exactly how I wanted it!
I kept that hair for a while – and kept cutting it, because I loved the freedom my hair gave me and how low-maintenance it was! Showers were much shorter and I didn’t need to blow dry my hair.
Until the start of 2013.
I wanted another change – and I saw someone with a hairstyle that I really liked, so I decided to get it just like that – and it was much, much shorter than I expected. I was quite happy with it, but all my friends and family and even strangers(!) told me directly/indirectly how short it was.
Something that was really kind of shocking was how one particular guy (an alumni from my school) told his friends (and right in front of me, too!) that ‘oh, it feels so weird because back in the 1990’s you didn’t have girls with short hair and now look at what’s become of the school’. I curse myself for not saying anything then.
My friend says girls with short hair make a statement – (I thought it didn’t, because hey, it’s the 21st century, and people don’t judge by hair) but I know now that it does – or at least, here in Asia. Or maybe it’s just that I can’t handle what other people say about me.
I might be growing it long now, because I’m sick of how people remark on my hair like it’s the only thing that they see, but maybe later in life I will cut it short, when everybody stops caring whether hair is long or short and weird or normal.
Because in all honesty, it’s just hair.
And right now, I think long hair is pretty. 2 months ago
So I got my hair cut two days ago. Now that I’m growing out my hair I’m always nervous they will cut off too much. I have not been ‘working’ so hard to have them cut it all off again! I feel like hairdressers just like their cissors a bit too much. But my current hairdresser is the first to actually do what I want and I barely even have to tell her, she just knows! So everything worked out, my hair is a bit shorter, I would say 2 centimeters in some spots, but it’s okay. And my bangs are a lot shorter so I can see again! Now onward with the growing! 2 months ago
I’ve had short hair for six years and with all the weight gain. It’s caused me to just want to stop cutting it. I do enjoy just being able to tie it up really fast and being on the go. Short hair is very high maintenance and looks crappy if your not on top of it with the flat iron. I’ll just stick to bangs whenever I’m in the mood to bring out the shears. 2 months ago
