We had a $50 gift card for Outback Steakhouse that we got for Christmas from my parents. Since the Girl was going out tonight, I called Hubby and told him to come home from work early so that we could go out for steak.
We had a very nice dinner. Hubby had to go out to the car a couple of times to take a couple of phone calls, but those were before the food came. Anyhow, the steaks were yummy, the brocoli was yummy, the baked potato and the garlic mashed potatoes were yummy, and the sauteed mushrooms were yummy.
We finished eating and headed out to the car. Hubby asked me for the keys and I pointed out that I did not have them. He thought that they were on the table and headed back in to get them, ignoring my question of if he locked them in the car when he was out there taking his last call.
Guess what? The keys were not on the table, just like I knew that they weren’t.
Hubby has a problem with locking the car doors. He’s resistant to doing so, but usually remembers to lock the door when he’s in my car. Not always, but usually.
We went to the car, and the keys were not dangling from the ignition . . . they were laying on the front passenger seat, where he dropped them when he went digging through my glove box for a pen while he was on the phone.
Can you guess that he had remembered to lock the car door?
So, there we are, without another set of keys (I, of course, did not have mine), and his phone was pretty much dead. My phone was at home. The Girl was not at home – she was out to dinner as well, and then supposed to be heading for the beach.
I tried to call the Girl. It rang once, and Hubby’s phone shut off. He managed to get it to come back on, and the phone rang. It was the Girl. He answered, and the phone shut off again. He got it back on and the Girl called again. This time, the phone managed to stay on long enough for me to tell her that her father had locked the keys in the car and that we needed her to come rescue us.
Luckily, we caught them at a good time, as they were just leaving Chili’s and weren’t in the middle of their meal or at the beach.
About 20 minutes later, they showed up, and the Girl got out of the car, laughing at us. Damn brat. She continued to laugh as she unlocked the car for us. I poked my head into her friend’s car to thank him for running her up there to rescue us, and the Girl got back into the car, still laughing, and they left.
We headed home, with a brief stop at Sweetbay.
Fun times. At least I got a nice steak tonight. :)
