This is another bogus goal, of course, since it’s already half-done. Oranje is my nation’s colour, and I matched it exactly…but in a basement office with one small window, it’s looking a little too dark (after one very good coat) in both afternoon light and the single 60W bulb hanging inside a ceiling joist box.

I had actually looked favourably at a lighter shade in the store, thinking ahead to the lighting issue. (Colour is 70% perception and 20%+ lighting.) So those were good instincts.

I will probably mix a little white paint into the second coat tomorrow, depending on what it looks like in the morning light. (The positive side of buying a too-dark shade: it should be easy to lighten, as opposed to trying to darken it.) The room has a very good base coat, so this should look fine. (Possibly a third coat if it needs it to even things out.) 8 months ago
