I want to become a bartender as a part time job during college. I think it’d be a fun way to help pay for it.

Worth doing!
If you find a good establishment, tending bar can be a great short-term job. It works wonders for your public-speaking and management skills.
Going to become a bartender, because the hours are better and I can meet more people than in this office

It seems like a really cool experience. Mixing all those drinks, conversing with drunk people; I think it would be a good job to have for a while.

I was working in a restaurant for years but was always given an excuse why they wouldn’t train me to bartend, which is something I really wanted to learn. I lucked out when I was hired on at my current job – yep..been with the same place for 5 years. Even with it’s ups and downs I will probably keep bartending on the side even after I get a “real” job :)
I have to agree with most of the advice others have already given. Start off in a restaurant, watch and learn and don’t spend loads of money on a bartending school. Good luck to everyone :)
orangewizard is thinking!!!
i wanna learn all the cool mixes n all..
i do not want it as a job.. neither part time nor full time.. just as a learning experience….
:-)
Sharalee is trying to stay on top of school
i actually know of a place near where i go to school that is looking to hire behind the bar for a couple mornings a week.. its one of those private raquet clubs for rich people. but its beer and wine only. great place to start… :) and i know someone who’s worked there for a couple years and she’s buddy buddy with the owner… just gotta get through summmer!
it seems like a good way to make money. i’ve heard bartending school is a waste of money. i suppose i’ll just do my own resaerch and learn!
Last night was my mom’s wedding. She told me weeks ago that she wanted to to bartend at the wedding, so I was totally excited about it. My excitement was totally justified once everyone started showing up. I had so much fun making drinks and passing out endless beers. My family and most of our friends are hispanic, so naturally I spent a lot of the time behind the bar doling out Coronas and making margaritas. But I also made a lot of mojitos, long islands, blue long islands, water moccassins, cosmos, cuba libres and all sorts of mixed whiskey and vodka drinks. I made $70 in tips when I expected $0 compensation for my time. It was open bar of course, so I didn’t have to bother with cash every time i made a drink, but I think even having to collect payment for every drink I make wouldn’t take much away from the fun. I really think I would enjoy bartending full time. And it’s something I could do anywhere I’d ever want to live.
