Rewatch Buffy and Angel

I started watching a few episodes a day. A great season, especially the second half. Now onto season 4, which I plan to watch in conjunction with Angel as it was first played on TV.

19. I only have eyes for you

Buffy: “I’m telling you, something weird is going on.”
Xander: “Something weird is going on. Isn’t that our school motto?”

This season is full of tearjerker episodes and this is one of the best of them.

20. Go fish

Cordelia: “You, you, you. What about me? It’s one thing to be dating the lame unpopular guy, but it’s another to be dating the creature from the Blue Lagoon.”
Xander: “Black Lagoon. The creature from the Blue Lagoon was Brooke Shields.”

Funny to watch now that Wentworth Miller is so famous. Especially when he asks Buffy to walk him home.

21. Becoming, Part 1

Spike: “It’s a big rock. I can’t wait to tell my friends. They don’t have a rock this big.”

The first time I watched this it was a great surprise to see who helped Buffy.

22. Becoming, Part 2

Whistler: “In the end, you’re always by yourself. You’re all you’ve got. That’s the point.”

The perfect ending to a brilliant season. It makes me cry every time.

13. Surprise

Willow: “Oh, I don’t know, though. I mean, he is a senior.”
Buffy: “You think he’s too old ‘cause he’s a senior? Please. My boyfriend had a bicentennial.”

One of the best episodes of this season. It all gets really good here.

14. Innocence

Drusilla: “I’m naming all the stars.”
Spike: “You can’t see the stars, love. That’s the ceiling. Also, it’s day.”

I always cry when I watch this. It’s one of my favourites.

15. Phases

Giles: “It acts on pure instinct. No conscience. Predatory and aggressive.”
Buffy: “In other words, your typical male.”
Xander: “On behalf of my gender, hey.”

Enjoyable ep after all the excitement of the last two, it works well.

16. Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered

Xander: “Do you know what’s a good day to break up with somebody? Any day besides Valentine’s Day! I mean, what, were you running low on dramatic irony?”

One of the funniest of season 2.

17. Passion

Jenny: “I know you feel betrayed.”
Giles: “Yes. Well, that’s one of the unpleasant side effects of betrayal.”

Another great episode. I think this really shows that Buffy is the type of show to take risks and they work.

18. Killed by Death

Giles: “Cordelia, have you actually ever heard of tact?”

This one is not bad if a bit filler.

9. What’s My Line (Part One)

Giles: “This ring is worn only by members of the Order of Taraka. It’s a society of deadly assassins dating back to King Solomon.”
Xander: “And didn’t they beat the Elks this year in the Sunnydale adult bowling league championships?”
Giles: “Their credo is to sow discord and kill the unwary.”
Xander: “Bowling is a vicious game.”

A big episode with a lot going on.

10. What’s My Line (Part Two)

Buffy: “Angel. He’s Drusilla’s sire.”
Xander: “Man, that guy got major neck in his day.”

Fantastic ending: one of the best of the series.

11. Ted

Giles: “I believe the subtext here is rapidly becoming text.”

Creepy.

12. Bad Eggs

Willow: “He wanted me to give you this.” (hands her an egg)
Buffy: “As far as punishments go, this is fairly abstract.”

The calm before the storm.

7. Lie to me

Xander: “Angel was in your bedroom?”
Willow: “Ours is a forbidden love.”

A brilliant episode. Funny and serious; great continuity; the last scene is my favourite – makes me want to cry.

8. The Dark Age

Xander: “Ooh, gang, did you hear that? A bonus day of class, plus Cordelia. Mix in a little rectal surgery and it’s my best day ever.”

We find out the truth about Giles’ past and it’s not too pretty. Season two has really picked up by this point.

5. Reptile Boy

Angel: “This isn’t some fairy tale. When I kiss you, you don’t wake up from a deep sleep and live happily ever after.”
Buffy: “No, when you kiss me, I want to die.”

The Buffy/Angel scenes were amazing, and there were some really funny moments particularly from Xander.

6. Halloween

Giles: “I’ll have you know that I have very, uh, many relaxing hobbies.”
Buffy: “Such as?”
Giles: “Well, um… I enjoy cross-referencing.”
Buffy: “Do you stuff your own shirts, or do you send them out?”

My favourite scene is Willow and Buffy trying to get the Watcher’s diaries without Giles’ knowledge.

3. School Hard

Vampire: “Slayer!”
Buffy: “Slayee!”

One of my favourites, funny and dangerous.

4. Inca Mummy Girl

Willow: “On the other hand, maybe Rodney just stepped out for a smoke.”
Xander: “For twenty-one hours?”
Willow: “It’s addictive, you know.”

Has it’s funny moments as all Buffy episodes do, but it wasn’t up to the usual standard.

1. When She Was Bad

Xander: “Well, we could grind our enemies into talcum powder with a sledgehammer, but, gosh, we did that last night.”

Not a bad start to the season and it does parallel the finale which is very neat.

2. Some Assembly Required

Willow: “By the way, are we hoping to find a body, or no body?”
Xander: “Call me an optimist, but I’m hoping to find a fortune in gold doubloons.”

There are some really funny moments in this one and it is very watchable.

9. The Puppet Show 7/10
I have mixed opinions about this one. One side of it is that I do enjoy watching it, however dummies wig me too.

10. Nightmares 9/10
One of the best episodes of the first season. It gives the first real insight into the characters minds.

11. Out of Mind, Out of Sight 6/10
Not my favourite. But Cordy coming (sort of) into the group is a good side of this one.

12. Prophecy Girl 10/10
Very cheesy expecially when the music comes in, but I do love this – the perfect end to the first season.

1. Welcome to the Hellmouth 8/10
I have seen this so many times but it’s such a great introduction to the series.

2. The Harvest 8/10
Part 2 of Welcome to the Harvest. It ends the story well.

3. Witch 7/10
This is quite a strong episode and introduces Amy.

4. Teacher’s Pet 7/10
As silly as some of it is, I do love this one. Xander gets to be in the spotlight.

5. Never Kill A Boy on the First Date 7/10
Some really funny parts, especially when everyone is in the Bronze and Angel shows up.

6. The Pack 7/10
The first time I watched this I didn’t like it very much – it was quite uncomfortable to watch, but it gets better if you watch it again. Xander makes a convincing bully.

7. Angel 8/10
Mmm Angel!

8. I, Robot… You, Jane 6/10
A weaker episode, but it did have some good moments. Molloch (sp?) and his followers were too monotonous. Ms Calendar was introduced well and you could see the sparks fly instantly between her and Giles.
