Started on a new one.
And I’ve still got the t-shirt quilt I promised to do…
I did it! Circumvented the whole sewing machine issue.
I spent yesterday finishing the quilting by hand and cutting out the binding strips.
Spent a solid 12 hours today sewing on the binding by hand, and it’s DONE.
Even though I’ve been so close for so long, getting this last bit done really feels like a huge accomplishment, because before it was a mess that was no use to anybody, and now it is a beautiful, finished present ready to be given.
Success.
My sewing machine is on the fritz. I guess I should have it repaired. I really want to finish this quilt and don’t know anyone here who can lend me theirs, nor can I think of any place to take it and have it finished.
I bought new thread on Sunday and I will resume progress on this in 2 weeks (the next two weekends are: visit from Australian friend and trip to see my mother).
Got about halfway through the day after CDN Thanksgiving but the thread kept snapping and giving me fits.
I will get this finished by Christmas, but I am planning to wait until probably October before I get back to work on it, unless the weather cools off substantially before then.
I started it in March, and once mid-April hit, it was just too unbearably warm to be working on this project. I’m currently stalled out until it gets cool outside again; also I have to figure out how I’m going to quilt across this bed-sized quilt (yes, I’m just driving myself crazy with issues of PATTERNS), but that and binding are the only two steps left.
change everything is getting her shizz together
The birthday is Friday, so I think I’m going to just sew together the top and then make her help me finish it (it’s easier with two people anyway).

she came over and helped me work on invites for a friend’s wedding (I volunteered to do them and then totally forgot to work on them all weekend). It’s a friend of hers, too, but she really came up with a great idea and deserves extra rewards.

but I can’t find my cutting board which makes cutting those final strips a real pain. In any case, I think I only have to cut two more for me to finish all of them (wait, probably three more, and do some seam ripping on one I did correctly). But connecting the top does not take much time, so I’ll see if I can get another hour in this weekend.
