How to trace my family tree back at least 6 generations

How I did it: Mostly internet research, some previous research from my mother and grandmother. Now that I have all the facts straight I feel complelled to dig deeper into the lives of my ancestors and find out who they REALLY wee, not just what their names were. The facts are great, but its the touching stories that will make them family. Lessons & tips: There are a lot of resources that are cheap and easy to find online, but not all of them are right. Make sure that you source all of your information as you go along and don't be afraid to ask others for help. Resources: Ancestry, local court houses, family

How I did it: I had a little bit of information that a family member had already gathered from a couple libraries and from relatives. I took that and ran with it. I went to town with every single one of those family ties and found out whatever I could. I read books, researched on the Internet, spoke to other people who may be interested in my same family tree... etc. I'm still in the process, and probably will be until the day I die.
