    Worth doing!

    Worth doing!

This island has a fair amount of old women who spin yarn and weave fabric. The art is a dieing one, not a single young woman to be found who works like this. For that reason, Alcira was glad to have me show up at her doorstep and ask to learn. I spent a wonderful two mornings with her, learning by her side. Too bad I go so soon. But I have her information, so I can find her and learn from her some more next time I come back.

    respun  — 8 months ago

    Worth doing!

I respun the red store-bought yarn, it turned out great. Plying it was a different story; I managed to get it done, but I had no idea what I was doing and so if it had been more than just a bit of yarn it would have been a full on kittenfest of a mess. But it was just a little, and I had my friends’ hands to help with the process, so I was able to get it all done.

I DID IT! I SPUN YARN!

Now to work it into a hat, and then I’ll have something I’ve made truly from my own hands …

need more material  — 8 months ago

    Worth doing!

I took apart some thick store-bought yarn yesterday so I can respin it thinner. I’m just fiending for practice.

The finca I’m on doesn’t have sheep, nor are there any fincas of that type near here. But I’ve been putting the word out of what I am seeking, and I’m slowly gathering the information I need. Maybe a woman in La Palma … which I hear is a truly magnificent place, sheep or none.
