I took the plunge and decided on one. Overtime and the extra job paid for it.
I ended up with a Nikon D40. I’ve only messed with it a little (it just showed up today), but I can tell this is going to be quite a difference from the Canon S2 IS that I have been using.
There were many reasons I ended up with this one. A friend has the same one and loves it and I found many reviews online from many happy users. Plus, the price was right ($150 off at Costco) and it came with a zoom lens. I have another friend who has a Nikon D90, but that is just too much money. This will do everything I need it to do and then some.
I considered the Canon Rebel XSi, but it was more than I wanted to spend.
I look forward to playing with it. I even timed my purchase just perfectly for my trip to Hawaii! :o)

While this probably falls under the heading of stop spending money on things I don’t need, I do really want one. I have been considering one for some time and probably should have bought one when I bought my last digital camera 3 years ago.
The camera I bought (Canon Powershot S2 IS) was decent and a step up from the last one I purchased (Sony Cybershot T1). My major problem seems to be shutter lag. I end up taking more blurry action photos because of it. I’m going to do a little research and make sure I’m setting the current camera on the proper settings to take the photos I want to take, but I really am tired of blurry shots.
I have pulled out my old SLR (Minolta XG1) that my dad bought me when I was junior high and have been playing with that again. It’s kind of cool taking photos with it. I have several lenses with it too. I wish I had access to a darkroom so I could develop the photos myself again. For now I’ll just have to turn the film in for processing.
I’ll continue saving up for the Digital SLR and maybe someday spring for it.
I’d really like a Nikon D60. Someday….

I bought this a few months ago in advance of my trip to El Salvador. I’d recommend something more easily concealed for trips to developing countries where robbery is a concern. If only I were able to avoid using the (notorious) buses for transportation there, I’d have been more confident in toting it around.

I still have my old film SLR, but it’s begging for a replacement. It’s my fault, really. I think it may have been defective when my mom and I bought it in Quiapo way back in 2001. That reminds me, I gotta go check if it’s still working…

A friend is wanting to sell his camera, so this might be easier than I imagined. $450 by the end of December.. I hope I can do it! :)
