I ran a 42:30 at the Bolder Boulder this year. I’m getting closer. I am going to train to go under 40 in August at the Rat Race 10K. I just ran my 1st sub 20 5K this morning, so I’m already on my way.

So Thanksgiving came and went. The good news: I ended up with a 40:53 which was a PR. The bad news: 54 seconds short of the goal! :)
Here were the splits:
(1) 5:54.21
(2) 5:58.45
(3) 6:42.59
(4) 7:26.15 <—cramped up hard on this mile and had to walk a bit!
(5) 6:57.32
(6) 6:44.63
(.2) 1:09.65
I followed a friend for the first two miles to get the sub-6 splits. After that I couldn’t keep up because of the cramp. Ended up about a minute behind him (he did 39+change).
Oh well: next time! :)
The Applied Materials Turkey Trot is tomorrow in San Jose, CA. Weather is forecast for low 50s (F). This will be a good opportunity although I haven’t done any track work since late August! :( Well the plan is to follow a friend who regularly hits 38+s and see what happens.
PR from the Palo Alto Moonlight 10k in ‘05 is 41:27. The San Jose Turkey Trot is coming up in Nov. ‘07, which is a good race, but ‘05 time was 41:3(1?) and ‘06 time was 41:44 or something, so I lost 10 seconds or so! Gotta get there and warm up first, plus find a like-minded pacer to set me on a straight course.
On 8/11 I ran a 46:41 10K at the Rat Race in Ault. I ran in a new pair of Nike Zoom RS shoes. They are super light and the miles melt away. I shaved 4 1/2 minutes off my previous 10K PR. Not quite the sub 40, but a few steps closer. I will see what I can do at the Bolder Boulder in 2008.
So it’s going to be at Havneløbet the 6. of march that the test will stand.
I have the following deadlines until then:
- 25.1: 5km < 21:40Done!
- 30.1: 5km < 21:20Done!
- 2.2: 5×2km@4:20Done!
- 6.2: 5km < 21:00Done!
- 9.2: 5×2km@4:103×2km@4:10, 2km@4:20, BUSTED!
- 13.2: 5km < 20:30Done!
- 16.2: 5×2km@4:004×2km+1km@4:10
- 21.2: 5km < 20:00Done!
- 24.2: 5×2km@4:10 Done!
- 27.2: 5×2km@3:55
- 2.3: 30min easy 6×1min fast with 1min slow – 1min @ Race Pace
Running the Bolder Boulder on Monday (Memorial Day). Have run this race 7 times and my best time was 40:12 although I have run a few other 10K’s under 38 minutes, this one seems to be my nemesis.
June 3, 2005 Well the race is over. I ran 40:56 which I was pretty happy with but looks like this will remain an open goal. Oh wel, keep trying I guess
