    Spiders 4 months ago

I am reluctant to delve into my books, as I have seen a large number of spiders around them in the last few days. I HATE spiders.

it is so liberating packing up the books that I know I’m not going to read anytime soon if ever. There is now a huge box full of books sat here ready for a new home.

Have to do it all over again 23 months ago

Becuase my wife hated the way the living room looked with all the books. So we went to get two brand new bookshelves, completely different style than before, and now I have to shuffle things around so they all fit. We’re likely going to be getting rid of a few pieces of furniture, which is good. I just hope everything works out this way…

    Eight Bookshelves! 2 years ago

Well, two of them are really tiny and full of cookbooks (and not in the photos), but they’re all organized and slightly clean! It took a lot of work, some cataloguing, and a purchase of a new bookshelf last weekend, but all of our books are on shelves, and organized by topic/genre and author. These are the two main bookshelves in our living room; all our fiction, my old RPG books, our “loaner” shelf, and photo albums and such. The other shelves will show up in the comments over the next little while.

Ugh, it's been too long. 2 years ago

I thought after I moved I’d easily organize all the bookshelves, but it’s been two months and I still have a full box of books to organize, and I pick up more every couple of weeks and am running out of room on the shelves. I’m hoping that setting up a LibraryThing account will jumpstart my drive, because this has been stagnant for a while now.

Finished (for now) 2 years ago

Last night in a sudden burst of motivation this finally happened. All of my cookbooks are now located on top of a DVD storage cabinet near the kitchen, rather than in a pile on the floor. My favorite writers now occupy the long wall shelf near the bed, and other fiction that I’m likely to thumb through when trying to remember a line is set up on a bookcase in the bedroom. What didn’t fit there is taking up the majority of two other bookcases in the spare room.

Most importantly, one large box was filled of books to give away, and multiple boxes were filled with books to keep stored. Until we move, I think this can be checked off.

    By Subject 2 years ago

I like to organize my books by subject. I am a book hoarder, but recently I started a minor purge of old fiction titles that are far from literature, though. Hey, it’s not like I’m going to read The Second Assistant again! I’m going to try to sell these titles at a yard sale (one of my 43 things) that I hope to have this summer. Subject, though, is the way to go. BTW, has anyone heard that they are phasing out the Dewey Decimal System? I think that is just sad.

    Pre-Organizational Tally 2 years ago

In my apartment, I have 6 bookshelves:
    1. Reference/cooking bookshelf.
    2. Fiction bookshelf.
    3. Overflow bookshelf.
    4. Graphic novel bookshelf.
    5. Non-fiction wall shelf.
    6. DVD/VHS shelf that also has some books on it.

I have books sitting all over my apartment, not on the shelves, not anywhere they’re supposed to be. I don’t know how I’m going to get this organized, but it’ll make my life easier, so I’m going to have to work on it. I move in 5-6 months, but that’s still enough time to enjoy the fruits of my labours.

    finally done 3 years ago

I took everything off the shelves, cleaned them and now almost everything is organized. Old stuff down, dictionaries and other useful stuff accessible, there’s a place for books from the library, for the pile that has to go back to the library and a place near my bed for the book I’m reading.
I even have more free space, hoe refreshing! Now I just have to get rid of the pile I left on the floor :P

I think the problem I’m having with this is that there is a subgoal that needs accomplishing, first: buy more bookshelves. It’s hard to organize when you don’t have enough space.
