Swept and cleaned up, got rid of a weed, but there really is nothing to do.
How to clean up the back yard
How I did it: I just buckled down, put on my ratty jeans, and weeded, swept and moved branches. It only took about 2 hours total. I made a list of the things I wanted to do and worked from one side of the garden to the other, so I wasn't having to continue to go back and forth.
Lessons & tips: I put music on so I would keep at it.
Resources: a good quality rake

Live in the city, but we have a bit of a patio area. There are a bunch of weeds and I’d like to clean that up

It’s slow going in the back yard. I’ve gone thru and sprayed the poison ivy once, but it doesn’t seem to have gotten all of it, so I’ll be going thru again tomorrow to re-apply the stuff. I still have 2/3rds of a yard to pick up sticks, leftover garbage that people dumped back there and the remainder of the vines. I’m proud I got at least the first 1/3rd done and seeded, just a little worn out when I consider how much more I’ve got to go.

Sprayed a bunch of poison ivy in the back yard today—it’s supposed to be completely dead (down to the roots) within 2 weeks. Seems a long time to wait.
Tomorrow I’m getting the leaf blower going, blowing the rest of the leaves out of the yard, picking up whatever other junk is back there and spreading the grass seed.

My leaf burning pile got a small gust of wind on it. This, in itself, is not bad, but the cinders that were kicked up off of it and onto the rest of the leaves were. Suffice it to say I have a lot less raking to do, but that was not the way I wanted to get it done.

It doesn’t sound like much, but we have forest back there and a ton of leaves, so I’m pretty proud just getting that much raked up. Of course, tomorrow is supposed to be rainy and REALLY windy, so we’ll see how many piles of leaves remain after the storm.
I’ll need to let those dry off enough to burn, rake the rest of the back yard, then seed it with grass—it’s all dirt under that layer of leaves.

Ok, so we don’t have a back 40—more like a back quarter-acre, but it is wildly overgrown and I’ve taken on the job of cutting down the brush, doing battle with the vines, raking up the thick layer of leaves, mowing down the weeds and hopefully reclaiming an area back there that we can turn into someplace nice for ourselves and a play area for the kids. The going is slow but I think I can get it done by the end of the summer.
