start a scholarship

My mom took us out of the lower class into a comfortable life. She has sent all her 4 children plus 2 of my cousins to college. She is now sponsoring the schooling of 2 of my younger cousins as well. She will probably help them through college. She inspires me.

So, I wanna gather all my friends so we can create a self-sustaining trust fund to help deserving Filipinos lift their families from poverty with a good college education.

I have always believed that education is the key to the world. And for some reason, I just want to start a scholarship. I’ve been thinking about doing this for about two years now but couldn’t figure out what kind of scholarship to start or what my goal was. I figured it out a couple months ago. I have a special needs child and I thought it would be so cool to start a scholarship for graduating seniors who have special needs or are in special education. I’v been to those scholarship awards nights and the same kids keep getting honored over and over. I want to honor someone people don’t think about. Someone who has to work a little harder to get to the same place. This is my goal. Now, I have to stop thinking and start doing.

I am starting out with my change and seeing where that takes me.
I want to personally give out the scholarship. I don’t just want to contribute it to some lump sum alumni association scholarship. I also want to be involved in the selection process. In high school I earned several scholarships that helped put myself and my sister through college. My dad had just lost his job. I want to use my life to give back to those in my community.
